Energized by funding: Westinghouse playing role in new nuclear plant

Executives from Westinghouse Electric Co. and the Export-Import Bank of the United States on Wednesday praised a financing deal that will allow Westinghouse to produce components for a nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates, while assuaging concerns about the United States supporting nuclear initiatives in the Middle East.

The Export-Import Bank is an independent federal agency that helps create and maintain U.S. jobs by filling gaps in private export financing at no cost to American taxpayers, according to Hochberg. He said the bank was asked to help Westinghouse win its bid for a portion of the Barakah One Company's $30 billion construction of a nuclear power plant in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Rosatom may invest in British nuclear power industry
Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation is interested in participation in the building and exploitation of new nuclear power plants in the United Kingdom, claimed Alexey Kalinin, the Head of ZAO Rusatom Overseas.

Rosatom is seeking an opportunity to invest into one of the nuclear power plans under construction. The state corporation also expresses interest in buying into EDF Energy’s planned project at Hinkley Point in Somerset.

Crack found in weld on western Pa. nuclear reactor
FirstEnergy Corp. and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission say a crack has been found in the weld of a western Pennsylvania nuclear reactor, but that no radiation leaked from the unit.

The crack was found Saturday on the reactor vessel head of Unit 2 at the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station, about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The unit has been down for regularly scheduled maintenance and refueling since Sept. 24.

CRYSTAL RIVER: LOSS OF ASSESSMENT CAPABILITY AT THE EMERGENCY OPERATIONS FACILITY
At approximately 0100 hours EDT, on October 9, 2012, a low voltage circuit breaker in the Crystal River Unit 3 (CR-3) Emergency Operations Facility (EOF) tripped due to an electrical fault. The associated loads were powered by backup batteries until they depleted at approximately 1057 EDT. This condition resulted in the loss of dose assessment (RASCAL) and facility cooling capability.

yeh, sorry wb not real active anon -still checking info here (ty all) just seem to have shit loads going on, all round, -computer use limited but feeling need to do more research, fuku too, great -i become a reluctant amatuere economist as thats all fucking mad looking, katla dont look good, not so good idea up here north latitudes, cd fuk global economy, -the sun and cycle/spot conditions and magnetic state is interesting say least -potential results/implications?, it goes on, -top it off with some radiation as cp put it, spewing out 24/7 for eternity (45billion years), -less they manage to invent the technology to do something about it, -cant get even near the units without certain death, -or maybe waiting, suffering, then death if not so lucky, yeh know, -any volunteers like? no it aint just sapan man -with you- this whole fucking nuclear thing plainly dont sense right, and if one senses this not, i dred -its gone fucking wonky somewhere imo, things need serious adressing -interesting times hmmm ? 21dec2012 even?

that aint so good to hear man, i'm not a doctor, but i know shed loads about health and nutrition, -ive come across interesting info via others about alzheimers, -as with all disease, the precursor to this is cellular dehydration, which results from the cells fluidic environment(either being polluted/toxic, or lacking nutrients/constituents causing the cells to detox/shut down). if this is prolonged in ones life then the cells starts 'mutating'/adapting -depending on the organ/function of the cells. -alzheimers symptoms are calcification in the brain, which apparently zeolite is good at extracting (as believe you know is good extracting radiation too, and all toxins) apparently its effects on alzheimer sufferers have been noticed even over night, might be worth considering/researching zeolite decalcification -apparently its been scientifically documented (i use it daily anyway, since fukushima to stay safe, & been using clay regularly for years anyway -Earth energy man!).
-but its one thing pulling stuff out the body that aint ment be there, but we have to stop putting the shit in!, AND nurture the cells with nutrition its designed for (we are tropical fruit and leaf eating great ages) -and thats the raw biochemistry it seems. greens are powerful healers, especially in this state.
clean air, water, food, -keeps health/happy, -my experience, as growing number of others, is this is true.life changing man, for the good imo.
yeh dude, take care and keep keeping it real.

Japan's top nuclear regulator says no restart until fault checks, tighter safety standards met
The head of Japan's new nuclear regulatory agency said Thursday that reactors will not be allowed to restart until they pass seismic inspections and meet new safety standards to be instituted next year.

Shunichi Tanaka, chairman of the Nuclear Regulation Authority, said that under the agency's new safety requirements, emergency procedures for accidents and terrorist attacks will become compulsory for nuclear plant operators. This follows criticism that collusion between the plant operators and authorities had left the tsunami-stricken Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant unprepared for last year's crisis. Before the accident, operators were allowed to decide for themselves whether to follow safety guidelines recommended by regulators.

Tanaka has been critical of the government's decision to restart two reactors in the western town of Ohi in July to avoid a power crunch during the high-demand summer months, calling the move political. The reactors are the only ones to go back online since Japan shut down all of its reactors for safety checks following the Fukushima disaster.

"Right now we don't have the legal basis to make any judgment over reactors," Tanaka said Thursday in an interview with The Associated Press. "We don't have the legal power to stop the Ohi reactors."

North Anna reactor is shut down because of repairs
Dominion Virginia Power has shut down one of the two nuclear reactors at its North Anna generating facility because of concerns about failing reactor coolant pump seals.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesman Joey Ledford said Wednesday that North Anna's operators shut down Unit 2 late Sunday after determining that a seal was degrading on a coolant pump.

Thanks for the info..

Funny thing about Dad. He's always been a healthy eater.. lots of nuts, fruit, greens etc. To a fault..
Makes it all the more mysterious.
He will hardly take an aspirin for a headache.
Into natural food remedies..

I think there might be something else going on that has been overlooked.
He had kidney cancer several years ago but it was removed by surgery with no need for after care or chemo..
He wouldn't have done the chemo, anyway.

I'm looking for answers and will take your advice.
Thanks, again.

Deep trouble: Nuclear waste burial in the Great Lakes basin
[link to www.voicenews.com]

[snip]

f a reactor accident or meltdown presents a dramatic threat to the Great Lakes, nuclear waste presents dangers of quieter orders of magnitude.

"Nuclear waste is created at every step of the nuclear fuel cycle," said Lloyd, from uranium mining and milling to fuel enrichment and fabricating and finally to nuclear fission in reactors.

A person can be exposed to radioactivity and not know it. It doesn't have a smell or a taste. Some forms of nuclear waste will remain toxic essentially forever.

"That's a mind-boggling thing," said Jackson.
