Up to 1,000,000 sieverts per hour outside Fukushima Unit 1 containment vessel — Still too hot to attempt measuring other areas (PHOTO & VIDEO)
[link to enenews.com]

[snip]

The lower the scope went the higher the radiation levels. TEPCO found the radiation level in the bottom of the torus room under water to be 100,000 to 1,000,000 Sv/h on the west side.
Yet the radiation levels on the first floor on that side are low compared to the radiation levels on the east side of the first floor

Mitsubishi to enter geothermal market in Indonesia
Japanese trading house Mitsubishi Corporation plans to invest in a geothermal power generation project in Indonesia.

Sources say that Mitsubishi will buy a 20-percent stake in Star Energy, the operator of Indonesia's largest geothermal power station, at a cost of 200 million dollars.

Star Energy plans to expand its facilities on Java Island within 5 years. Its aim is to boost its output to 420-thousand kilowatts, and supply electricity to 2.75 million households in the area.

Nuclear regulatory body to check fault underneath Oi plant on Nov. 2
Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority said Wednesday that it will conduct an on-site inspection on Nov. 2 to confirm whether there is an active fault underneath the sole nuclear power plant operating in the quake-prone country.

The outcome of the inspection at Kansai Electric Power Co.'s Oi nuclear plant in Fukui Prefecture could affect the fate of the plant's Nos. 3 and 4 reactors that the government approved for restart earlier this year on the assumption that their operation was safe.

Diablo Canyon powers up Unit 2 reactor after shutdown
Operators at Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant began ramping up power in the Unit 2 reactor early Tuesday morning. The reactor shut down Thursday when a transformer shorted out. Dust had built up on an insulator and rain caused the wet dust to ground out the transformer, said Tom Cuddy, PG&E spokesman.

“The rain was definitely a contributing factor,” he said.........................

The info is from the tepco chart.
Indicated values.
Who knows..? Lots of suspicious shit going on with that inspection...

[link to www.simplyinfo.org]

[snip]

The highest readings found so far were taken when workers dropped a scope through a floor hole into the torus room on the west side of the building. The lower the scope went the higher the radiation levels. TEPCO found the radiation level in the bottom of the torus room under water to be 100,000 to 1,000,000 Sv/h * on the west side. Yet the radiation levels on the first floor on that side are low compared to the radiation levels on the east side of the first floor. This indicates that the torus room readings on the east side if available would be even higher than those very high readings found on the west side of the torus room. TEPCO has not attempted the same inspection on the east side as the 1st floor levels are too high to send workers in.

Physics forum says highest reading is 11.1Sv/hr.
Speculation that the low readings indicate the corium has little contact with the cooling water.
Also, puzzling that the measured dose rate increases with height.

From another discussion:

Mochizuki Cheshire Iori (Fukushima-Diary):

I think reactor4 is decoy.

Margie Knapp: What do you mean by that?

Mochizuki Cheshire Iori :

All the other reactors have SFP too, and they don't even know the state of the inside of reactor3. and in common usage pool, they have 6400 spent fuel assemblies.

Noah Taylor: It's worse than a bad acid trip.

Holly Jebb: Think the worst of this situation and it is probably even worse than that...

Radars installed off Wakayama to observe tsunami
Japanese researchers have erected large radar systems in the sea off Wakayama Prefecture, western Japan, in a bid to observe tsunami at an early stage.

A research group led by Japan's land ministry and Kansai University developed the radars based on aviation control tower technology. The group on Thursday briefed local government officials on the system.

Installed 60 kilometers off the coast of Mihama Town, the radars are designed to observe the height and speed of tsunami before the wave hits the coast.

Tsunami measuring up to 18 meters high are predicted to strike Mihama Town in the event of a large earthquake in the Nankai Trough off Japan's Pacific coast.

Testing of Fukushima rice about 1 month behind schedule
FUKUSHIMA — The Fukushima prefectural government said Wednesday that work to check all harvested rice for cesium has fallen behind schedule.

Currently, the prefectural government and local associations of rice growers are testing all rice for cesium at Koriyama. However, prefectural officials said there are only four machines and some 6,000 bags are being delivered to the center each day, NTV reported.
The machines can check up to 4,000 bags per day, taking about 10 seconds per bag, officials said.

Utilities hold on to nuclear reactor plans despite minister's remark
Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Yukio Edano has made it clear the government will not allow construction of the Kaminoseki Nuclear Power Station planned by Chugoku Electric Power Co., underscoring its policy of prohibiting new nuclear power reactors, except those already being built.

But with the policy lacking any legal basis to stop construction, the power company does not appear to be giving up on its preparations. With a general election looming, the utility also appears to be hoping for the formation of a pro-nuclear government that could overturn the no-reactor policy.

HARRIS: OFFSITE NOTIFICATION OF WASTE WATER PIPE LEAK CONTAINING TRITIUM
On October 16, 2012 at 5:12 pm, plant personnel identified a leak from a pipe on plant property. The pipe carries secondary plant and water treatment building waste water for chemical processing. The water, containing a low level of tritium (10,760 picocuries per liter), leaked into the surrounding soil. The surrounding soil is being excavated and the leak is being repaired. The EPA Drinking Water Standard is 20,000 picocuries per liter.
