Permit to drill is only a mile from nuclear plant
SHIPPINGPORT -- Chesapeake Energy has a permit for hydraulic fracking just one mile from the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station in Shippingport. Whether that is cause for alarm, experts can’t say.

But one thing is for sure -- in the midst of the Marcellus boom, drilling companies are going to continue fracking, pockmarking the earth with mile-deep wells, blasting away at the subterranean feature that is the Marcellus shale.

And then the Beaver Valley NPS will disappear in a giant sinkhole sooner or later...

Scientists pinpoint nuclear plants in high-risk zones
[link to www.powerengineeringint.com]

[snip]

Scientists in the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium have produced a pioneering study, which shows nuclear power plants that are located in zones affected by tsunamis.

The scientists have identified 'potentially dangerous' areas that are home to completed nuclear plants or those under construction. By highlighting high-risk zones, they hope that further plans can be implemented to head off similar disasters.

New nuclear regulator to impose tighter safety standards
TOKYO — Japan’s new nuclear regulator will impose tighter safety standards for atomic plants, taking account of geological data in the earthquake-prone country, its head says.

Shuichi Tanaka, in an interview, also said his new body would have the authority to restart reactors idled since last year’s Fukushima disaster once new safety standards were in place and met. Restarting such units is a key point in reducing the import bill for fossil fuels to produce electricity.

DIABLO CANYON: UNUSUAL EVENT DECLARED DUE TO SEISMIC EVENT
HU1.1 Seismic event identified by earthquake felt in plant and US Geological Survey (USGS)."

An earthquake was felt onsite at approximately 0000 PDT. The licensee stated that two out of three methods for determining if an Unusual Event should be declared were met (i.e. the earthquake was felt in the plant and the earthquake was monitored by the USGS). The licensee characterized the earthquake as a "very mild" event. The licensee stated that, at the present time, there was no indication of damage to either unit and that both units remain at 100% power. The licensee is in the process of conducting walkdowns to confirm there was no damage to the plant.

Second Reactor At Iranian Nuclear Plant To Be Ready In 2013
The Russian company building Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant has said the second reactor for the plant will be ready for commissioning in March 2013.

The first unit at Bushehr was brought to full capacity at the end of August after several delays.

Also in March 2013, Atomstroieksport, the Russian contractor for the Iranian nuclear plant, will transfer the plant's operations over to Iranian technicians.

Well.. it's all bad. The actual fuel didn't melt until the water evaporated.
There is a huge crack in reactor 1 vessel. 3cm is what I understood.
Under pressure, super-heated.. maybe the water spurted out quickly.
I do remember that the pressure rose very quickly.
And there is the issue of the cap bolts stretching under pressure.
Also an issue with welds that hasn't been investigated much..
I guess we'll find out for sure, someday..

I'm sure they are still burning anything and everything in Japan during debris removal. They just had a large brush fire..close to the plant.

All I can say is watch the jet stream and rain/snow deposition likelihoods..
Try to stay out of it if you can when there is a possibility of fallout.

Take care of the kids.
If I'm wrong.. great. They'll still be ok.
