Arguing about any of this is useless.

The facts are coming out now.
The military/nuclear establishment has ended us.. get it..?
This means you, too.

The contamination cannot be arrested.
It is merely time and circumstance which now separate us from our fates.

Family, separated by Fukushima crisis, struggling to find closure

A family, separated by the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear crisis, remains emotionally confused as they still cannot work out when or whether to return to their home in Odaka Ward in Minamisoma, Fukushima Prefecture.

"I thought (separation) would be temporary and hoped we could return," Yasuhiro Abe, 49, said as he looked at a photo of his wife Misako, 46, and 10-year-old son Takeru, who are living apart from him in Saitama Prefecture.

EDF Gets Environmental Permit for First U.K Reactor in 20 Years

Electricite de France SA won environmental permits for its planned atomic power plant at Hinkley Point in Somerset, which will be the first new reactor to be built in Britain in more than two decades.
EDF obtained the three main permits required from the U.K. Environment Agency, the company said today in a statement. They govern control of emissions, cooling water and liquid waste discharges from the Hinkley Point C plant, as well as safe disposal of small amounts of low-level radioactive waste.

NuScale Power competing for DOE small modular reactor funding

NuScale Power will compete for the Department of Energy's (DOE) recently announced funding opportunity. The funding opportunity outlines a plan to provide investments to private industry to support the design, licensing and manufacturing of small modular reactors (SMRs).

NuScale has developed a technology for building safer, smaller, scalable nuclear power plants. Using light water reactor technology, the NuScale Power Module is cooled by natural circulation, entirely self-contained and installed underwater and underground to maximize safety.

NuScale's small modular reactor design is scalable from 45 MW to 540 MW. The plants are designed to shut down and self-cool without AC or DC power or additional water requirements in the event of severe weather or a Fukushima-type event.

220,000 tons of tsunami debris to reach N.America

Japan's Environment Ministry says tons of debris swept away by the March 2011 tsunami will reach North America from April.

The ministry on Friday released the results of its third and more precise computer simulation on the debris.

The report says the main part of the drifting debris, mostly lumber and wooden materials, will start to reach North American shores in April, 4 months later than initially forecast.

105,000 tons is to arrive by June and 221,000 tons by October.

Experts: Cesium leak may be continuing

Researchers say contaminated water from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant could still be leaking into the port. They are calling for a thorough investigation.

A team from Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology has been studying data on seawater directly in front of the plant. Tests of the port water show levels of radioactive cesium of up to 100 becquerels per liter. That level exceeds the government's safety standard.

Researchers calculated the total amount of radioactive substances in water spilling from the plant over a one-year period.

According to their calculation, about 16.1 trillion becquerels of cesium 137 may have leaked into the sea in the year since June 2011. That's about 73 times the safety discharge limit imposed before the accident in March 2011.

TEPCO mulls more spending to ensure safety of Niigata nuclear plant

Tokyo Electric Power Co. is considering spending tens of billions of yen more to ensure the safety of its Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant on Japan's northwest coast, which it is aiming to restart in fiscal 2013, sources familiar with the matter said Friday.

The utility's total spending on safety measures for facilities at the world's biggest nuclear power plant could grow to over 100 billion yen as it pledged to spend around 70 billion yen after the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami crippled its Fukushima Daiichi plant.

Despite facing funding problems, the company, known as TEPCO, plans to bolster safety measures with the aim of resuming operations at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa plant in Niigata Prefecture at an early date, according to the sources.

Fukushima status little improved

Radiation is still at dangerous levels in the contamination zone of Japan's Fukushima nuclear power plant, says a witness report.

The BBC report on Monday recounts a tour of the Fukushima site taken last week, the second such tour granted foreign TV journalists since an earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011, crippled the nuclear facility, operated by Tokyo Electric Power Co.

In reactor building No. 4, which BBC referred to as "the most worrying," more than 1,500 spent fuel rods remain in a cooling pool outside the reactor's steel and concrete containment vessel on the third floor.

Salt reactor runs on nuclear waste

A company spun off from MIT is claiming it has cracked the holy grail of nuclear technology: a reactor design that runs on materials the industry currently discards as waste and which could meet all of the world's power demands for the next 70 years. It's also "walk-away safe," the designers claim, making it immune to the kind of meltdown that destroyed the Fukushima reactors.

The Waste Annihilating Molten Salt Reactor (WAMSR) is based on designs first dreamt up in the 1950s for reactors that used liquid rather than solid fuels. Two graduate students at MIT have now upgraded those designs so that the reactors can be fueled by nuclear waste, and also designed a safety system that will automatically shut the reactor down without power or human intervention.

Report: FL, SC and GA Ratepayers To Foot Bill For $20 Billion In Excess Costs If Nuclear Reactor Projects Are Not Stopped

WASHINGTON, March 14, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Ratepayer-Unfriendly "Advance Cost Recovery" Financing Schemes Are Keeping "Uneconomical" Reactor Projects Alive; Warning Sounded for IA, UT, MO and Other States Toying With Advanced Cost Recovery Financing.

Saddled with an "advance cost recovery" financing arrangement that allows the nuclear industry to make them pay in advance for the construction of new reactors, electricity ratepayers in South Carolina, Florida and Georgia, are faced with a stark choice today: Either "eat" roughly $6 billion already invested in costly new nuclear reactors or shell out even more when the region's increasingly "uneconomical" reactor projects pile up $20 billion or more in excess costs.

That is the main conclusion of "Public Risk, Private Profit, Ratepayer Cost, Utility Imprudence," a major new report by economic analyst Mark Cooper of the Vermont Law School Institute for Energy and the Environment. (The report is available online at [link to 216.30.191.148] and [link to www.vermontlaw.edu]

Cooper also concludes that the dire prospects ahead for ratepayers in the Southeast U.S. should send a clear warning to ratepayers and lawmakers in other states - including Iowa, Missouri and Utah - that have toyed with adopting "advance recovery financing" (sometimes called "construction work in progress" or CWIP financing) to erect traditional large-scale nuclear reactors and so-called "small modular reactors," which recently received the Golden Fleece Award from Taxpayers for Common Sense.

126 U.S. military members to sue TEPCO

WASHINGTON — U.S. service members are suing the Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) for more than $2 billion on grounds the utility lied about the dangers of helping clean up the nuclear disaster that struck two years ago.

The case was first filed by nine plaintiffs in December but has now expanded to 26, and another 100 are in the process of joining the suit, said Stars and Stripes newspaper.

The plaintiffs include active duty and retired shore-based Marines, shore-based dependents and sailors from ships that operated in the disaster area.

The newspaper said peers of the plaintiffs complain the latter are seeking an easy payoff and that the Pentagon insists the radiation they were exposed to did not pose a major health risk.
