They say they have no idea what that yellow stuff is,

Strangely enough, as soon as I saw the picture of this substance, I immediately saw how vastly similar it look to 'yellow cake uranium'...which is a type of uranium concentrate powder obtained from leach solutions...then dried and powdered. It is not soluble in water.

Obviously, this substance has not been produced in quite the same way as as industry manufactures it from ore.

However, it cannot be denied that uranium is there, nor can it be denied that what's happening at Fukushima HAS NO PRECEDENT.

Who's to say that it's not from the remains of any uranium that either melted in the fires, or, 'vaporized' into 'dust' in the explosions?

The article mentions melted steel.

"Dark “dripping” materials are seen adhering to some nearby surfaces. TEPCO assumes this is residue from the molten fuel and melted steel"

Steel melts at around 2500°. Uranium melts around 2,075°F.

It was established that because temperature gauges were destroyed, there is no way to tell how hot the reactor burned...but, knowing that steel melted at 2500°, who's to say it didn't get hotter?

Then there's this from that wiki:

"Yellowcake is used in the preparation of uranium fuel for nuclear reactors, for which it is smelted into purified UO2 for use in fuel rods for pressurized heavy-water reactors and other systems that use natural unenriched uranium."

Yellowcake is not always yellow. It can also be beige, brown or black.

So, it seems to me that either TEPCO is not being honest again, or, they still have no idea what going on there.

If it wasn't for the Bush-Cheney outing of Valerian Plame, I would never have known about this form of uranium, and, if not for TEPCO, I may not have spent the time I did learning enough to possibly recognize something they can't.

Of course I could be wrong about this, but at least I have 'some idea', rather than their 'no idea'.

There are spent fuel rods sitting in unstable cooling pools suspended precariously 75 feet off the ground and their suspension rigs are damaged.


If they fall and spent mox rods evaporate thats the end of life as we know it in 3 years tops.
