Anonymous Coward User ID: 1113183 United States 06/24/2011 12:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That is the reverberations from the 7.4 Alaska quake. All seismos register huge quakes - check them out - they will all show a quake at the same time. It is the vibrations from a big one. So Yellowstone did not have a quake. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1423459 United States 06/24/2011 12:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | yellowstone has BIG quakes every week. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1440929Actually, NO, they don't. You obviously don't keep up with Yellowstone. I've been keeping up with Yellowstone since January and this is the first one I've seen of this size and on every chart. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1350195 United States 06/24/2011 12:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's missing the preamble. That makes it a suspicious quake Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1435160It also clipped out the seismograms. That makes it a big quake. How big? I don't know how those stations are calibrated. Clippage is not fun in any case. |

Quoting: °Epic°ding ding ding ding WE HAVE A WINNER !!!!!!! If that was the case, the intensity would be similar on all the seismograms. There is one where it appears small. Wait and see I guess. Clippage is not common at a distance. |

When Japan happened every seismo around the world was pure black from the Earth vibration of the quake. Yellowstone is somewhat close to the epicenter of Alaska, so it registered bigger. Here is a link to many seismos from around the world, you will see they are all registering a large quake at the same time. [link to aslwww.cr.usgs.gov] Understand how the Earth vibrates and shows quakes. Also - you will see the P waves of quakes and where they register stronger [link to earthquake.usgs.gov] Please learn how it all works to understand. |

A good thought but not sure because different locations are in different formations, some might jiggle much more than others I guess from the same ambient oscillation. Clipping does seem to indicate more than a 7.4, 2000 miles away. . DON'T VAX, PROPHYLAX! ____________ There is no anger in Me: If one offers Me thorns and thistles, I will march to battle against him, And set all of them on fire. But if he holds fast to My refuge, He makes Me his friend; He makes Me his friend. (Isaiah 27:4-5) |

Nothing showing as of yet on USGS though... Quoting: mushydoll[link to www.isthisthingon.org] Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh but that is only what happens when other big earthquakes pop off on some other part of the world. You see they say it works like this.......their seismographs are soooooooooo extra sensitive that when a big earthquake pops off at some other part of the world it has nothing to do with Yellowstone itself. It is only showing up because of the seismo waves being captured at Yellowstone on their extremely sensitive equipment. But as they will tell you big earthquakes have absolutely no effect on supervolcanos. And because the scientist told you this you must therefore believe it........big earthquakes thousands of miles somewhere else in the world have absolutely nothing to do with supervolcanoes. |

Quakes do affect other areas - especially the P waves - which I linked above. As one fault moves it may put pressure on another thousands of miles away and that is why one quake can make another pop. Also quakes do affect volcanoes, any large Earth movement can cause another on the other side of the world. The Earth is one place, what happens in one area, doesn't stay in the area ( unlike Vegas). :) But Yellowstone did not have it's own quake, it simply mirrored the Alaska quake as all seismos did. |
