June 24, 2011 – OKLAHOMA CITY — Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb has declared a State of Emergency for 33 Oklahoma counties because of extreme or exceptional drought conditions and associated wildfires. Lamb issued the declaration Friday at the request of Gov. Mary Fallin, who is in Ireland this week attending her daughter’s wedding. The executive order marks the first step toward seeking federal assistance should it be necessary. The declaration may be amended to include additional counties as conditions warrant. The action comes as dozens of firefighters battle a blaze near Lawton that has destroyed 13 homes and scorched about 5,500 acres. According to the order, at least 10 fires have been reported in Oklahoma, leading to evacuations in some areas. The counties included in the order are located in western and southern Oklahoma [ link to theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com]
