Damn must be too many libtards who refuse to accept Clinton repealed this bank-controlling law. Reinstate this law and we are back to mid-90's bank activity not this risk everything attitude we have now. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1250261You should have posted this topic as an AC or under another account. Clearly you seem to be easily offended when one differs from your opinion. Since I state facts as much as possible then you may be one of the delusional peeps out there. Dont know for sure but sounds like it. On another note, I have seen many decent info posts fall into oblivion simply because they were facts we already are aware of and of little interest to many. This is most likely the reason nearly nobody replied. Also the time of day for USA folks. So your claim seems less and less realistic without more who agree with you. Oh - I fart in your general direction! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1446357 United States 06/28/2011 09:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have been saying this for months on here and most dismiss it. Now finally we have a Fed Chief saying the same thing - you want the banks to stop running/ruining our lives? Reinstate the Glass-Steagall Act 100%. Quoting: IJumpInIt[link to money.cnn.com] |
IJumpInIt (OP) User ID: 1305271 United States 06/28/2011 07:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You need alot more than repealing Glass steagall. Compound interest has to be destroyed. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1225402Compound interest may be a problem but first things first - the Glass-Steagall Act kept the banks in check for most of the century simply by not allowing them to leverage our checking/savings money. Being an Independent voter I see it was a Democratic President (Bill Clinton) and a Republican Congress who pushed to repeal Glass-Steagal. I see this repeal as a sort of removing of a throttle govenor so the banks could put the pedal to the metal with lending and risk-taking. This is what allowed the Clinton-era request to make more loans available to lower income people, a normal Democrat stance. Problem is the banks went overboard with the lucritive profits from 'closing costs' on each property, and then the greed took over. This is normally blamed on Bush alone, but it was Clinton who wanted to continue the expanding economy which the 1996 de-regulation of the telecom industry (Newt pushed for that) allowed the tech sector to boom, which created the 'Internet' boom, which led to the 'dot com' boom. Both parties had good intentions but as with anything in life, no good deed goes unpunished. Both parties fueled the housing mess and with the lingering recession brought on by the dot com bust, the Enron/WorldCom/Arthur Anderson accounting scams and then 9/11, the only thing left that would create jobs was to sell homes. It worked all too well but overheated and then imploded. Now to get back on track we need to seperate the banks again - as a starting point. Before anything else will stick these walls need to be erected again. Write your Congressman/Senator and let them know you want Glass-Steagal reinstalled 100%. |
