Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Bolivia Hit By Epic Freeze!
Five of South America’s major fruit-producing countries have witnessed an historic cold snap over the last week, including a snowstorm in the Argentine citrus region of Tucumán. Low temperatures were registered in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Bolivia.

The blizzard hit Tucumán on Friday in conditions not seen since 1920, while the Brazilian state of Santa Caterina recorded a wind chill of -25°C (-13°F).

It will take time before the full consequences for crops can be seen across the continent, but Brazilian press reported Santa Caterina’s agriculture and livestock were seriously affected and 80 people have died.

Yea everything that happens seems to be wiping yet another food source. It is very worrying I have brought a fair amount of bulk rice and beans, canned food but no where near enough for a year.. Hope business stays good so I can still buy food if it gets more hikes which I think is inevitable.

I agree, prices will really go up.
There are some pretty good dehydrated foods available online, might think about that if you haven't already - easy to store enough for a year+ that way. Some have a 20 or 25 yr shelf life. That's a plus.

Might look and see if there are any local sites here, just got totally smacked with a customs tax and bio maf tax on a shipment from the US an extra $200 on top of $1100 spent after the exchange rate turned against me during the time or purchase to the order been processed a week later added a fair chunk to the cost ouch.

The problem with that SwampWitch is; if you only eat dehydrated food... then you need alot of water...so...( and i just guessing)...In the worst case scenario.... Where do you will find a reliable source of water?

Extreem of every type of weather at the moment. This is exactly what the climatologists were saying would be the result of climate change.
The only good thing to come out of yet another cold winter in the southern, as well as northern, hemospheres is the methane clathrate's trapped in the permafrost are going to remain trapped.

That's a big problem for a lot of people.
We have a natural spring, very reliable and good water for over 100 years. Plus a stocked pond, I could filter & treat that water if necessary.
I don't know what others would have to do - our spring has hidden outlets, you'd never know they were there if you don't know the land.

That's plain bullshit!!!
I lie in Brazil for 42 years and all I can say is that it's as cold as it was suposed to be in winter.
The minimum in Brazil was around 20ºF. Not even close to -13ºf.
Cities in Sao Paulo state also had record highs for the day this friday, with tempr=eratures above 90ºF in some cities.
whatever

No surprise...A volcano erupted 3 weeks ago.

Every time a massive eruption happens in Alaska/Russia, the U.S. Midwest/East cool dramatically. So, it makes sense it would happen there too.

When Sarychev volcano blew it's top in mid June 2009, it took between 2-3 weeks and the Midwest/East were very cool for the rest of the 2009 summer. In fact it was 68 degrees for a high on July 4th in my area. Usually, it's like an oven on that day.

the cold spell lasted only a couple of days. Before and after that temperatures were even above normal in most parts of those countries. It will get very cold again on monday but temperatures are forecast to rise sharply again next wednsday. So, nothin abnormal is happening. It's just winter. Or are you americans too dumb to understand that when it's summer in northern hemisphere, we're in winter!!!!???wall

New Zealand has very stringent bio security to protect the country.. I did not even think that what I ordered would have to be treated.. but anything that presents a risk in the way of food, bugs like in wood etc.. but yea after the exchange rate going from favorable to not and then the customs charges been an expensive month.
