Does it really take 4000 years to build a cell phone? | |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1451133Progress and invention has been happening for at least a couple of million years, and is still happening now. One primary driver is building on and improving older ideas. We went from stone tools, to bronze, to iron, to steel and then on into the industrial / technological age... We developed language, writing, mathematics, sciences... We've moved from walking, to riding horses, to cars, trains, planes... The other driver is creativity and knowledge. Somebody has to think of a new idea, or science has to advance to make things possible. Without an understanding of electromagnetism there would be no use of electricity... Without engineering skills we couldn't build massive bridges, dams, buildings... Without quantum theory there would be no semiconductors, no computers, no cell phones... You remind me of the (mis)quote that they should close the patent office because everything had been invented. It'll be interesting to see what science, thechnology and human innovation comes up with next, but I'd bet good money it won't be nothing :-) bla-bla-bla... |

They were living in the bronze age so how were they supposed to advance anywhere except improving on what existed at the time? Clearly he's challenging our current mainstream understanding of what constitutes the technology and capbilities of man during 'The Bronze Age'. Damn English keep getting caught up in their semantically hopeless language |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1454628 ![]() 07/04/2011 04:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | innovation is based on imagination...if you can't imagine it, how in the hell can you build it? Nothing is impossible. Just think, our children's children will wonder WTF is up with those cell phones? Who knows what they will be using to reach out and touch someone. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1231386My future cell phone is like that Star Trek communicator badge. Just tap and say who you want to call. That's it. Who needs to text? hell yeah innovators today are forced to work upon pre-existing circuits/systems based on PREVIOUS innovations based on PREVIOUS conceptions and constraints. they need to learn a complex mess of systems based on the ideas/inspirations/revelations/psychological weaknesses ![]() the geniuses are never sucked into this mainstream loop and innovate on a completely different level. they are ostracized and mocked until their peers are finally able to man up and admit they were wrong. sucks to have years of work crumble away because you were told to work around a seemingly false premise. if we are able to gain a birds-eye view of how our incredibly (potentially) efficient brain works, there is nothing to stop us from designing their counterparts in our physical reality. this of course ties in to developing related spiritual powers. ![]() |
