walk after the SPIRIT OF GOD,
not after the flesh
Christ crucified His flesh on the cross
so we crucify, weaken,persecute our flesh
our flesh demands food,drink,entertainment,riches,beauty,sex,pleasure,etc
so we deny the flesh what it wants,
the most extreme of this is fasting,MARTYRDOM
we weaken,crucify our flesh,,,,,,so the SPIRIT can be strong in us
Christ fasted for 40 days,,,,,,,,,,He was strong in the SPIRIT after that fasting
If we want to be strong in the SPIRIT,,,,,,,,fasting may be necessary
1 cor 9;27
paul buffeted his flesh,,,,,,,,,because he was afraid that he might become a castaway (lose his salvation),
Paul killed,weakened, disciplined his flesh,,,,,,,,so the SPIRIT would be strong in him
the flesh profiteth nothing
flesh cannot inherit the kingdom of God
we live in the SPIRIT

we live and die for Christ
FASTING AND MARTYRDOM are forms of crucifixion.........Christ told us, "Take up YOUR cross , and follow me".............the Cross was an instrument of death,execution,,,,,,,,(not suffering,tribulation,etc)
cross = death to the Flesh
