"The movements around Hekla have been unusual in the last two to three days," University of Iceland geophysicist Pall Einarsson told AFP. While this might not necessarily mean an immediate blast, "the volcano is ready to erupt," he stressed. "The mountain has been slowly expanding in the last few years because of magma buildup," he explained. [link to uk.news.yahoo.com] |

Quoting: TessTsunamis and distant effects Ships as far away as South Africa rocked as tsunamis hit them, and the bodies of victims were found floating in the ocean for weeks after the event. The tsunamis which accompanied the eruption are believed to have been caused by gigantic pyroclastic flows entering the sea; each of the four great explosions was accompanied by a massive pyroclastic flow resulting from the gravitational collapse of the eruption column. This caused several cubic kilometers of material to enter the sea, displacing an equally huge volume of seawater. The town of Merak was destroyed by a tsunami 46 m (151 ft) high. Some of the pyroclastic flows reached the Sumatran coast as much as 40 km (25 mi) away, having apparently moved across the water on a "cushion" of superheated steam. There are also indications of submarine pyroclastic flows reaching 15 km (9.3 mi) from the volcano. [link to en.wikipedia.org] I hate to think what sort of Tsunami Hekla could cause? |

This is from your link: The pressure wave generated by the colossal final explosion radiated from Krakatoa at 1,086 km/h (675 mph).[3] It was so powerful that it ruptured the eardrums of sailors on ships in the Sunda Strait[4] and caused a spike of more than two and half inches of mercury (ca 85 hPa) in pressure gauges attached to gasometers in the Jakarta gasworks, sending them off the scale.[5] The pressure wave radiated across the globe and was recorded on barographs all over the world, which continued to register it up to 5 days after the explosion. Barograph recordings show that the shockwave from the final explosion reverberated around the globe 7 times in total.[2] Ash was propelled to a height of 80 km (50 mi). |

If this happens tomorrow, i will start heading for the hills ad stocking up food and water. Quoting: LimpanThis is getting scary I'm a believer in the Elenin/nibiru concept, but i dont think its causing this volcano as there isn't another alignment with earth until september. But you never know.. Things are really just getting bad everywhere you look..! I lost my mind... But i found my soul. |

Quoting: Ou812[link to www.decadevolcano.net] and it has been 11 years since last eruption....so it is due to erupt! The big deal is that, as I said on another thread, we are now getting an average of one new volcanic eruption EVERY WEEK. We're even getting eruptions from volcanoes that are supposed to be extinct! If this situation continues, we'll be surrounded by erupting volcanos and a toxic world, a nuclear winter and - get this - NO CHANCE to see the arrival of the inbound beast. Already, we are being given the excuse that Elenin cannot be seen because of continuous cloud cover. It was only yesterday that scientists predicted the likely eruption soon of some volcanoes in, of all places, Australia! I understood also that there's one dormant volcano in Germany, I know there's one in France (near Clermont Ferrand) and at least one in Spain, plus at least 3 in Italy, as well as their super underground volcano. As for the USA, watch out for Mt Rainier as last week there was a rock landslide, plus Yellowstone of course. Doom is DEFINITELY on ! mclinking |

Hekla. Photo by Geir Ólafsson. Einarsson told ruv.is that the volcano is certainly ripe for an eruption but the sensors are new and there isn’t enough experience with them to draw any conclusive assumptions. In the past few days the sensors around Hekla have shown unusual movements in the earth’s crust and these movements were picked up by all the sensors. Scientists aren’t familiar with the volcano’s behavior in this sense as they haven’t had the opportunity to monitor such movements before, Einarsson reasoned. However, he is not in doubt that Hekla is ready to burst. The volcano has been extending slowly but surely in the past years as magma is accumulating below it. Hekla has been preparing to erupt ever since the last eruption concluded in 2000. The Civil Protection Department of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police was notified of the latest developments yesterday, as were civil protection committees in south Iceland. However, no special action will be taken for the time being. Hekla will continue to be monitored closely; its eruptions have usually started without much advance warning. In 2000, a series of earthquakes commenced one and a half hours before magma thrust its way to the surface. Einarsson said this is in fact the longest advance warning Hekla has given; in some cases it is much shorter, only 25 minutes in 1970, for example. The volcano has erupted in approximately ten-year intervals in the past decades. [link to www.icelandreview.com] |

Butterfly (OP) User ID: 3705 Netherlands 07/06/2011 09:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | is hekla a huge volcano compared to the volcano that erupt last year? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1456918"They call it Gateway to Hell" REYKJAVIK, Iceland -- One of Iceland's most feared volcanoes, Hekla, looks ready to erupt, with measurement instruments showing likely magma movement, an Icelandic geophysicist said Wednesday. The volcano is close to the ash-spewing Eyjafjoell, which last year caused the world's biggest airspace shut down since World War II, affecting more than 100,000 flights and eight million passengers.
