make up one you like is not your totem, you must be able to "listen" to many animals before you can confirm. Most people can not listen at all. These things are not for entertainment. Animals are not here to make you feel warm and fuzzy.

OP have you read Ted Andrews book, " Animal Totems" . I have it and simply love it.

Each day the universe leaves messages / clues for us to discern.

Somedays as I walk doing everyday chores I will come across a playing card in my path. I make a note of it and when I return home I look up the meaning and more often than not it is an answer to a delima that I am currently experiencing.

Or like yesterday on my way to work , a beautiful little mink ran across the highway directly in front of my car. Thankfully he didn't lose his life, but again upon returning home I looked up the meaning.

One day a huge white crane landed in my front yard ( in a huge neighborhood) just as my 3 year old grandchild and I stepped out. It stayed in place for a very long time allowing us to really see it's beauty.. Of course I looked up the meaning of the message..

pay attention to your surroundings. the animal may cross your path or fly past you repeatedly. random people might mention it in your presence repeatedly. dreams. your own spirit tells you or you receive a strange feeling when you see it in real life or in a picture. you may all of a sudden become fascinated with the animal. the totem usually changes periodically

yes. it seems the totem animal picks one and then makes one aware of it. i love animals, but birds are my soul.

I always wondered why my spirit keeps manifesting wings and a different way of moving then a human. Then when I became more aware I remembered the truth. I long time ago in a world far far away I actually was a dragon. A living breathing not imaginary type. I lived for a long time there in a few lifetimes living in that type of form. I remember the frequent drumming and regional wide harmonies another sentient species there would create in my honor. I forget the details of why but I still remember the rythms of that and the ancient stone temples and buildings of that area. It was very Earthlike in the sky and forests but the areas I frequented were also very wild and overgrown definitely not urban at all. Anyway even to this day if I am charged up either extremely happy, angry or whatever I feel like I am in a dragon form again. Even the memory of the ice cold air and the wind as I flew is exciting. No Earth animal has ever fit me.
