Also put duck tap over its speakers when not using it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1390406'Splain, Lucy.......as I said - I'm a bit of a techno-tard..... |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 780016Well - I can unplug it, sure - but I don't usually, because when my husband gets home we are all sleeping and he watches dvd's before going to bed. Then, when my kids get up, they usually want a dvd to watch. Anyway, my question was more about the ringing telephone than how to make the tv stop turning on..... |

Quoting: Dried Up HagThe past few weeks, my bigscreen television has been turning itself on every morning at 6:00 a.m. Being the techno-tard that I am, I've been unable to figure out how to re-set the timer on it. So, every morning I have to physically shut the dumb thing off myself. It never really powers off, just goes into something like standby mode... I don't want to be mean or nasty but I dont think you are trying hard enough if you can not manually change the 'power on' time so that it does not come on at 6am. getting up at that hour every day to turn off a tv is ridiculous. these tvs are designed for a very broad base of human existence and mental ability. it will tell you how to do it in the manual. if you dont have the manual you can google the model number and download the manual for free. if you just pick up the remote and hit menu or setup or similar button and scroll around until you find things to with time settings you will be able to switch it off. |

Yes - I have followed the manual's instructions....and no - I don't get up to turn off the tv....I am usually up before then anyway. I've used the remote to turn the timer to the "off" setting - to no avail. It's something that I usually don't think about - having forgotten about the nuisance a few minutes after turning it off. And if it really bothered me - I'd do more about it. And - not meaning to be mean or nasty myself, I really only posted this because of the telephone ringing that occurred this morning. That has never happened before and I was just curious to see if anyone could explain why it did....my human existence and mental abilities have apparently not prepared me for a ringing television. |

MmmKay? no it won't/doesn't, regardless of appliance model, this would NEVER happen. you would have to go into the settings & reset the unit to 'factory default' settings or possibly another setting depending on the appliance. I had a dvd recorder that did this @ 8am every morning, someone messed around with the settings. |

Am I understanding this correctly? what if you have an emergency & need to ring for help?? If your husband has the only form of phone with HIM, you need a new husband imo. I would never let my wife be without a phone (even though I hate mobiles), from a safety pov you need one, especially if you are a woman. |

Proskiracer User ID: 1445153 United States 07/16/2011 08:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's a Zenith R50W47c...... Quoting: Dried Up HagGlad I don't have that TV! That is some creepy shit, you could totally write are horror plot just around that. Imagine just walking around everywhere and fucking televisions ringing at you, and here is the clincher, only you hear it. Also, the only way to make it stop is to answer it and have a conversation with an evil entity on the other line.... OOoooooo E ooooo Spooky shit! My explanation, is I (maybe you too) can hear this uber-high pitched whining noise coming from TV's (especially CRT's or tube TV's) when I'm in the vicinity. Maybe that combined with a ceiling fan to oscillate it. IDK THINK ABOUT THIS! The universe created life to be observed, without an observer, it never existed. So it is a mathematical proof that the universe created life. |
