Yes, look at history. The Catholic Church, actually a pagan organization, was created by Rome to distort and corrupt Christianity. Many of its teachings and practices directly contradicted the teachings of the New Testament, and it discouraged people from reading the Bible. When the Bible began to be published in different languages, the Catholics burned at the stake those responsible. If Christianity is such an effective system of control, why was has it not been taught and practiced in its pure, Biblical form for most of the last two thousand years? Why write something to deceive people, and then go against what they wrote? Doesn't make sense.

Also, do you think we would have anything approaching freedom on this planet without the Protestant Reformation? Not saying that the Reformation was perfect, but it did much to free Europe from the tyranny of Catholicism. But at the present time, much of the Protestant efforts are being undone as so-called 'Christan' leaders embrace ecumenism.
