OK, so everyone knows the 'official' story about comet Elenin.

In fact, NASA has a nice summary up right now on Stereo:
[link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

or more specifically:
[link to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov]

Article Quote:
"Russian astronomer Leonid Elenin discovered the comet last December at International Scientific Optical Network's robotic observatory near Mayhill, New Mexico."

*****************
PROBLEM - NEED HELP WITH THIS:

I find no such Observatory.

I have been through Mayhill, NM several times (AND IM GOING BACK IN A MONTH... SO WITH ANSWERS I COULD STOP BY!)

Mayhill is about the size of a Walmart (figuratively), and I have never seen signs pointing to some Observatory.

Listings for Observatories nation wide do not list "International Scientific Optical Network's robotic observatory"
as shown here:
[link to www.thefullwiki.org]

There is an entry for something near Mayhill, but it appears to be (literally) a rent-a-telescope operation, and the name is quite off of the "official" name. On the site, they do not list credit for finding Elenin the comet or working with Elenin the astronomer.

Sooooo.... where the hell is this Observatory where the comet was discovered? IF found, I will be back there in a month... and could stop by easily. Would plan on talking to this astronomer (should he exist) or a colleague.

Thanks!

It is precisely because it is fashionable for Americans to know no science, even though they may be well educated otherwise, that they so easily fall prey to nonsense. They thus become part of the armies of the night, the purveyors of nitwittery, the retailers of intellectual junk food, the feeders on mental cardboard, for their ignorance keeps them from distinguishing nectar from sewage. — Isaac Asimov

I suggest looking at a more up-to-date list of observatory codes. Such as the one on the site of the people who maintain it:
[link to www.minorplanetcenter.net]
And this is not the list of all observatories in the world, only the ones that report observations to the Minor Planet Center.

Leonid Elenin's observatory is listed as "ISON-NM", code H15. It's written on the header image of his blog.

The "observatory" is a remotely controlled telescope in a shed on the grounds of the New Mexico Skies astronomy hosting company:

Here's an ISON/PulKON page about it, in Russian:
