From 118 miles altitude and beyond, we are told to believe that this 58 x 21' capsule S-IVB, no bigger than a New Jersey Sportfish had enough pep and thermal protection to carry 3 occupants for a further 500,000 mile ride, something NO ONE has been able to duplicate in 40+ years.

Von Braun was talking about using the direct ascent method. They instead used multi-stage rockets and the lunar orbit rendezvous method.
