It appears that even if a product and each component of that product has no metal alloys and if a purification system actually reduces lead, under Section 116875, it must be be certified. An example of this would be the Berkey sport water purification bottle. |

Does anyone else wonder why it is just Berkey water filters that cannot be shipped to California and Iowa? I ship water filters to California all the time. None of my filters are restricted. Is this a case of Berkey taking a stand or is there more to this story? I don't understand why the state of California doesn't just require a water test of the water that is produced from the filter. Does the Berkey company explain why they won't test their parts? How much do the tests cost? Berkey does a lot of business and their reputation is almost cultlike. I would surmise that testing of their parts might be expensive but the amount of profits they make from California should more than cover the costs. Unless, of course, their components in fact do contain lead in amounts that are too excessive. That is my concern. And it's a major concern.
