Not environmental ( sorry to all the poor seal pup saviors) but simply to keep the dollar value of the land and natural resource potential maximal. Why would seemingly sane leaders continue to spend like they do on childish failed forms of governmental utopias like socialism. Are the children in America today too lazy and stupid to continue down the Darwin highway and just want to suckle on the DC teat and plan fun weekends? That can't be!!! And another thing....... why would the Russians want to buy Alaska? All they have to do is simply wait another , say 30-50 years. Then they will be able to walk across the Bering sea on a winter day and take it. We will have neither the will, money or resources to stop them. We will, however, have the media to spin this as America's most proactive attempt at world peace, the finest example of social, environmental and economic justice!!!!!(given the current socialists in power now continue till then). After all it will be just some more "change" .... that's all!!!:
