Does the average person gain anything from riots?
I've seen a lot of people here opine that people in the U.S. are too lazy, cowardly or stupid to protest and riot like they are in other countries.

What benefit is being had from such activities though? Has Greece been helped by their problems? Has England become a better place due to the riots there?

Or has it just been used as an excuse to tighten down control and put even more people, generally not the rioters themselves, under the boot?

Before we laud people for "taking a stand" shouldn't we be allowed to find out what that's gained them?

If a polite write in campaign gets better results, maybe we should think about trying that first?
