Canada 09/22/2005 05:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Gas in Southern Ontario at 225.5 CDN per litre/8.21 per US Gallon Yep, you read that right...2 gas stations in Stratford, Ontario (between London and Kitchener, 150 miles from Detroit) are charging $2.255 per liter this morning.
At today´s exchange rate of $1.00 CND exchange rate equal to 85 cents U.S. that is exactly $8.21 US dollars per gallon (3.78 litres.)
Prices in this area of Southwestern Ontario were generally 94 cents CDN yesterday, or about $3.02 US dollars per US gallon (3.78 liters), coming down a bit from over $1.30 per litre right after Katrina.
Another station in Chatham (about 50 miles from Detroit on the 401 freeway) was charging $1.50 CDN per litre, or $4.82 US dollars per US gallon.
When a gas station charges way more than the cost of filling the existing storage tanks, that is GOUGING, no cutesy way around it. They should only be allowed to charge more based on what that future shipment actually costs, plus a reasonable retail markup. |

Canada 09/22/2005 05:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: Gas in Southern Ontario at 225.5 CDN per litre/8.21 per US Gallon I am sure the seen was chaos at other pumps as a local radio station begin to receive phone calls from people traveling on the 401 began to report that gas had jumped to 1.79 in Chatam. Within a hour long line ups all over the city caused chaos until 2 am and the price still did not go down. Fighting was reported at a station in Essex police had to be called in. The kicker is my friend that works in at the corner gas pump Petro Canada Manning rd and Hwy 42 told me that they sold $60,000.00 worth last night. Ladies and Gentlemen it is dam time there is some government regulation over pricing. This could be price gouging of the consumer. As you can see with last nights chaotic display our civil breaking point is not much higher than 1.00 per litre. The government must act and they must act now before someone gets killed to put gas in there car. The fuel companies greed has far surpassed our tolerance level.

NO BULLSHIT...if 1.79 is true, then obviously 2.25 can be true. |
