Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.), an official candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, slammed the US’s role in the downfall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime on Thursday. “The current situation in Libya may be a short term victory for Empire, but it is a loss for our American Republic,” Paul said.

Paul’s comments were made after anti-Gaddafi forces gained control of Tripoli on Monday and began a manhunt for Gaddafi. Although small pockets of loyalist forces remain in and around Tripoli, the downfall of Gaddafi’s regime represents a significant victory for the people of Libya.

NATO forces played a controversial role in the demise of Gaddafi’s regime. The US assisted NATO forces by enforcing a no-fly zone over Libya. After committing US forces to Libya, President Obama defended his decision by saying that failing to act would have carried “a far greater price for America.”

Paul was one of the first opponents of US intervention in Libya. In a Texas Straight Talk column, entitled “Enabling a Future American Dictator,” Paul argued that giving Obama the power to use US forces in Libya without Congressional approval and without an appropriate explanation within the time frame required by the War Powers Resolution was in violation of the Constitution. The Founding Fathers “believed war was not to be entered into lightly, so they resisted granting such decision making authority to one person,” Paul said.

On Thursday, Paul continued to argue that the US’s involvement in Libya is unconstitutional. “There is no doubt that Moammar Gadhafi is a bad guy, and that he has brought harm and misery to his country. However, our involvement in another country’s civil war is costly and unconstitutional,” Paul said.

The UN has called for restraint in Libya amid reports of abuses and alleged summary killings by both rebels and Gaddafi loyalists. The Security Council has also agreed to release 1.5 billion-dollars in Libyan assets to help deal with humanitarian needs. The opposition continues to claim that Tripoli is largely under its control, while the National Transitional Council says it's moved from its stronghold of Benghazi to the capital. There are reports of heavy resistance by Gaddafi forces, with the Colonel's whereabouts still unknown. Meanwhile, Gaddafi has aired another radio message, claiming he's fighting on the frontline. NATO has denied previous reports that it's assisting the rebels in the hunt to find him. The responsibility of the US government is supposed to be toward American citizens only, not worrying about whether Libya has a democracy or not. I think that is a front for the special interests taking over from Gaddafi so that they can remove him from power and control the people and resources there.

They are wasting our money. We are in debt to the rest of the world and they are wasting our money harrassing Libya.

I heard that Gaddafi was developing his own currency system based on gold. If it is true that bankers who print fiat money are behind the wars, it makes sense that they would be behind declaring war on Libya.

Gaddafi is an independant kind of leader. I guess that is not tolerated any more under the NWO. Maybe they only want people in power who will attack Israel.

Notice how the Palestinians are shelling Israel again now that Libya is allegedly fallen? The same thing happened when Egypt fell, masses of Muslims tried to just walk over the border and reclaim Israel.

I think OP has had his IP targetted and been DDOS'd as a result of all his threads showing NATO and the media are lying.

OP showed there is NO popular uprising in Libya, it was always a staged invasion by the west, with The State of Qatar providing funding to the Al Qaeda 'rebels'

OP also showed that Al Jazeera, which is owned by the State of Qatar (a western puppet dictatorship) has become the SKY-FOX bullshit news mouthpiece for the Arab world, and can never be relied on for independent news coverage.

LOL That is an understatement. My internet connection has been totally FUBAR for 3 days now. I have contacted my isp but they aren't doing shit about it. I even emailed them my firewall logs showing the DDOS traffic coming from GOVERNMENT networks here in USA, Canada & UK but from the conversation I had today with the "abuse" department they are not cooperating and instead keep trying to say it's a technical issue with my connection.

I have worked at several major isp's over the years and know a few things about how it really works. Every isp's uplink to the internet backbone providers has a "secret" intercept that allows the government to monitor every single bit of data which flows on the internet. The database is tied into the isp's customer database so it doesn't matter if I get a new ip address, the attacks start right back up. They are packet flooding my router non-stop 24/7. I have managed to partially deal with it by replacing my router with a linux box to better filter the junk traffic but my 50 megabit cable internet has turned into a low grade adsl connection and sometimes worse.

This is not going to stop me from seeking & sharing truth however. I am infinitely patient and really have nothing better to do at this point so I will soldier on. I sincerely appreciate the good contributions and kind words of support from everyone! That alone makes it worth dealing with this bullshit harassmeent. I do have a super-secret-squirrel plan in the works to evade the harassment and as soon as I get my adsense check in the mail from google next month will implement it :)

Exactly - some other inconsistencies with the 'tyrant dictator' bullshit theory:

- no lavish palaces
- no huge extensive personal assets seized overseas (everything frozen or seized was State owned)
- the central bank is State owned, ie no personal shareholding
- no personal business monopolies anywhere in Libya
- a fantastic UN Human Rights Record Report
- women are free of restrictive laws of most arab countries
- lots of religions practiced there

And yes, from time to time some outside country tries to ally itself with a disgruntled tribe in Libya, in a bid to win certain resource contracts; and sometimes some tribes want to go off and kill Americans in Iraq, against Gaddafi's wishes - so some order has to be enforced. But no regular massacres, no jails full of political prisoners - it is all lies - as anyone familiar with Libya will tell you.

I've been there, I've met Gaddafi, I've researched his past. I've even tracked down and interviewed Gaddafi's english tutor when Gaddafi was in the UK getting educated.
He's an idealist. Call him kooky with his third way political theories - but he is not a brutal dictator. The people love him as their leader, even though they didn't think he was doing the best job towards the end.
