i care very much about getting the facts of fuku. last i heard the ground around the plants was cracking and radioactive steam was coming out, 24/7. i heard the level of radiation was more than the instruments could measure. This meant that the melted fuel had gone though the bottom of the containment building into the ground and would eventually reach the water table. can someone who knows about this please discuss it. i am wondering what exactly is a hydrogen explosion, something that is supposed to happen when the fuel meets the water. also, can plutonium be blown into particles small enough to be carried by the jet stream thousands of miles?

Still trying to confirm reports of radioactive steam from ground vents. Another hydrogen explosion is possible in building 3 due to the fact that the nitrogen injections were not effective because of pressure loss from holes in containment. The nitrogen injections are done to displace the hydrogen gas which is formed by the reaction between super-heated fuel rod zirconium cladding and water.

The corium hitting the water table could cause a massive steam explosion. In that case, plutonium could be blasted into the atmosphere along with many other deadly radio-isotopes. We don't know when or if this will happen. If the coria are stable in place we're good. If the coria are still hot(up to 5000f) it is a waiting game. It is possible the coria have gathered enough impurities to cool somewhat.
