Re: [PHOTOS]===>>>Hurricane Irene Path: The Aftermath
he storm that was once Hurricane Irene crossed into Canada overnight but dangerous floodwaters still threatened communities up and down the East Coast, as residents tried to return home Monday to asses the damage.

The National Hurricane Center said late Sunday that tropical storm warnings are on for the south coast of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, where Irene was downgraded from a tropical storm, but still packing 50 mph winds.

Hurricane Irene leads to at least 24 deaths
The Associated Press
Hurricane Irene had led to the deaths of at least 24 people in eight states as of Sunday evening:

CONNECTICUT:

- In Prospect, 89-year-old Charlotte Levine was killed early Sunday when a falling tree limb pulled power lines onto her house and started a fire.
- In Bristol, 46-year-old Shane Seaver died after he and another man went canoeing down a flooded street and the canoe capsized. Seaver's body washed ashore late Sunday night in Plainville. The other man survived.

Re: [PHOTOS]===>>>Hurricane Irene Path: The Aftermath
Residents along the Eastern seaboard faced a massive clean-up effort Monday after Hurricane Irene pounded tens of millions of Americans with wind, rain and floods.

The huge size and slow journey of the storm along 1,100 miles of U.S. coastline left an extraordinarily broad impact. At least 24 deaths were attributed to Irene as devastation ranged from North Carolina to Vermont. Toppled trees, fallen debris and flooding caused hundreds of roads to be closed over the weekend. Up and down the coast, some 2.4 million people evacuated.

Re: [PHOTOS]===>>>Hurricane Irene Path: The Aftermath
(CNN) -- Hurricane Irene has come and gone, but many travelers are still going nowhere fast in the aftermath of the storm.

The airlines are just recovering after canceling thousands of flights over the weekend, some mass transit systems are still struggling, and train service remains sporadic in parts of the Northeast ravaged by Irene.

Re: [PHOTOS]===>>>Hurricane Irene Path: The Aftermath
Hurricane Irene is gone, but the problems she caused are not.

New York City is clanking back to life as its train, buses and airports slowly return to service, and communities from North Carolina to Vermont are toting up the damage from Irene which is believed to be in the billions of dollars, making it the tenth billion dollar storm of 2011.

More than 4.5 million people along the East Coast were without power today. In addition, Irene is blamed for the deaths of 25 people.

New Yorkers returned to work under blue skies on Monday but the destruction left by Hurricane Irene made commuting a nightmare for thousands in the city's suburbs whose train service was suspended by flooded or blocked rail lines.
