My 3rd Grader has to make a solar system to turn in at the end of September. I am SOOOO tempted....

I will have to figure out how to delicately address that one, as well. Pluto doesn't have NEARLY the mass to cause the perturbation of Neptune that scientists have noted nor enough to qualify it as a planet according to some theories. But, hey, it's in the textbooks...it must be true! :rollseyes:

(When I was a young college prof MANY years ago, I taught two years at New Mexico State University, where Clyde Tombaugh the discoverer of Pluto was also teaching. Met him a couple of times.)

Check Hobby Lobby and similar stores. They carry styrofoam kits (in the children's hobby section) with proportional sized balls for each of the planets. Easy to color (crayons work) and can be strung together with wire, etc.

My son is 16 and still has one he made in the 3rd grade that has Pluto as a Planet.
