I can't live off my $174,000/yr salary

I live off of $40,000 a year, what is his damn problem?

He's doing too many drugs (expense), has too many "toys" (expense), has too much real estate (expense), has too many women on the side (expense), etc. - basically he is a loser.

I live off of $33,000/year, including raising a kid and paying for private school. $174,000 would be like winning the lottery around here.

Yes, household total. School is about $4800/year after you add in fees and books. We don't eat out. We buy clothes second hand. Meals are wild rice and veggies with little meat. No perks, but we aren't hurting for anything and that's a lot more than some people can say. I'll start renting out spare bedrooms before I put her in public school, though. LOL!

Up here the price for housing is higher so I won't tell you how much I've made this year. I couldn't live off the amount you stated though that is for sure.

....there ya go, all gone.....and yes i eat better than most and have a nice house, cars etc....but its not like i am swimming in extra money....i paid close to 80,000 in taxes last year..... Not including purchase taxes and propery taxes....

I raise 4 children on 19K a year. We own our home (5 bedrooms), drive an Escalade, and the kids get new school clothing, shoes, etc.

It takes A LOT of energy and determination, but it can be done. I take great care of their clothing and then trade them in at the local resale shop for their next size. I shop with coupons, take advantage of sales and save up for the bigger items that we need.

We live in a very well-to-do neighborhood, and the neighbors would never guess how little we live on. We were economically strong when we had the kids and bought the house, and then life happened.

Making it on 174k? That would be freakin' awesome.
