More Riots for UK?
Anarchists hijack the travellers' last stand: Fears of bloody confrontation as bailiffs get set to bulldoze Europe's largest illegal campsite

[link to www.dailymail.co.uk]

This makes me soooo angry. How would the do-gooders and trouble makers, like this on their doorstep?

To be quite honest I'm on the travelers side here, that site has been there for years, their children go to school like all the others, it's just racism. All that will happen is they find another spot to live on till they get booted again.

Just to clarify why it's racism, they are mostly Irish travelers. It's not just about skin colour.

They just dont like travellers and want their way of life controlled and planted and lost forever inside council estates, they dont like people to be that free.

I don't live very far from there. They may own the land but it's green belt and not for building on. If you or I tried it we'd have the council around within days. They should have put a stop to this right from the start.

I'm a very fair-minded person and if people want to live off the grid so to speak then that's okay by me. What isn't okay is having one rule for one and a different rule for everyone else. I'm afraid around my area these people aren't called pikey's they are called do-as-you-likeys.

I expect there are some, as in all cases, that are nice but we've had stones thrown at the car on the main road near there - one actually breaking the rear window, smashing it with my daughter sitting next to it, and a lot of them aren't very nice at all.

Maybe if the travellers were allowed more places to go to then they wouldn't have to gather in the same place all the time.
People should have the right to a nomadic lifestyle just as those who live in houses have the right to remain in the same place.
What gives anybody the right to say how people should live as long as they cause no harm to others?

That's the problem right there I'm afraid. They don't pay taxes for amenities, like we all do, but expect the same privileges.

There's nothing wrong with a nomadic lifestyle at all but you must pay your way where it is needed, otherwise why should anyone else pay? And then we would have anarchy.

We'd all like that but we can't, so the same rules should apply to everyone. There are a lot of camps in this area and it creates bad feeling when only the locals have to stick by the rules.

Exactly.

Council tax anyone?

Undeclared income.

Impound their fucking vans, auction them off to pay for their back taxes and the clean up of the site, then tell them all to fuck off back to Ireland. Or let them squat on the land of the loonies who think the law abiding majority should accomodate and pay for, the unlawful minority.

That's only part of the problem. They fly-tip, hook their electric up to the mains, treat their animals very badly. We have a kennel in the area that deals almost solely with their outcastings and they are overrun. The sites are almost no-go areas for other people.

Yes, you should be able to do what you want with your own property, but you shouldn't then be a problem to the surrounding areas.

It's kind of an oxymoron, we are travellers and we have a way of life, but you dont travel anywhere, you've plotted up there for 10 years.

If they behaved themselves fair enough, but they dont we all know it (if you have a site anywhere near you, you know what I mean).

Maybe Vanessa should put her money where her mouth is and let them plot up on her land, sanctimonious biatch

Re: More Riots for UK?
These sites don't contain many travellers. That name has wrongly stuck. They're just the UK equivalent of trailer parks really.

If travelling communities actually travelled and lived in harmony with their surroundings, including temporary neighbours, there'd be few problems. There are some wonderful people who live among these sites. Real characters who loyal, friendly types. But their exclusion, voluntary or otherwise, mostly breeds a selfish and sometimes vicious mentality.

That said, they aren't much different to most of the rest of us. They just never wear suits nor speak in well spoken tones.

if the people who supported these types only knew the levels of criminality (theft, extortion, benefits fraud with MULTIPLE identities, public health risks, vehicle crime, money laundering etc) carried out by these types they would change their minds very quickly.

it's not about racism or freedom or wanting to put them in council houses. it is about EQUALITY. if you pay your taxes to get local services and these people arrive on your protected reserve land and live like animals and still enjoy all the local services that you have paid for it can not be tolerated. they don't just latch on to existing services either, many local councils have to dedicate resources just to pander to these people and make sure their children dont live in total squalor.

the separate issue is the planning. they can't get retroactive planning on an illegal green belt site. neither could joe millionaire with a palladian mansion. EQUALITY.

I actually know a few travellers, and some of them can be cunts, but a lot of them are really nice people. The Daily Mail is a right-wing rag at best.
