United States 09/01/2011 03:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is urgent and the most important post I will ever post here I want to start this out by saying I know the BS flags will come, but for people who read this board and are serious about it, please keep reading. I'm just gonna tell what happened to me and the questions are at the bottom of the post.
I know this is serious, I just don't see the bigger picture or the smaller one for that matter.
My husband's retirement check was direct deposited yesterday (Wednesday August 30th, 2011) This check goes into our account once a month on the 23rd of each month. He has his SSDI that comes on seond to the fifth of the month.
So I go into the bank to cash the check and deposit some of it into our savigs account. I have the check endorsed, my license out along with my debit card in order to make her day a little simpler.
She processes the check and then explains to me that she can only give me 100 of a 1500 dollar check. I tell her I need 500 of this check for bills and groceries. I explain my account balance is greater than the check so there should be no problem.
I said excuse me (very politely) And she tells me they are low on money. She then goes on to tell me that everyday towards the end of the day they contact someone to let them know how much cash they have on hand and how much they will need the next day. An order goes out and an armor car brings them their money so the next day it is business as usual. The trunk hasn't come and they are rationing money to gt by until the trunk comes.
At this point I am still in shock. She explains to me that I can use my debit card today and I can have the balance of my accounts tomorrow in cash if that's what I want to do.
At this point the manager comes out and asks if he can be of help to me. I explain the situation to himm and ask for the original 500.00 I came in for. He tells me with "deep regret" bullshit in his voice that he can not help me with that. He then acts like he has a phone call and walks away.
I have thought of this 7 different ways to Sunday. I am not an illegal. I do not countierfit. I do not use drugs, I have no warrants out fo my arrest,so they didn't siganl me out.
I take my husabnd to speech therapy and his therapist tells me she has an older female client that told her she couldn't pay her for the same reson. She told almost an identical story to mine.
My questions are; under what circumstamnces can they let you use a debit card (not to withdraw cash, but at merchants)if they have no cash? Aren't there laws on the books that say a bank has to have so much cash on hand. Once again I am so confused, please help me to understand this. This happened at City National Bank in Point Pleasant, WV 25550
If this is temporary, how common is it I've never seen anything like it?Who can I contact and how long will it take me to get my money if this isn't fixed tomorrow? |

Sounds like your bank may have some issues. My question would be, what if people start getting upset about this, I mean VERY upset? They going to close the doors and deny access to everyone's funds???? |

Quoting: onecraftydude THank you. It is the first time, however I personly felt there is more to this story. As I was being talked to I kept thinking of things like bank runs, It's hard to make anything fool proof as fools are so ingenious. |

I wouldn't think $500 would be much of a problem though unless maybe it was close to end of day or something and they were just even lower than normal. |

Quoting: N3m3s1s That's what I am wondering. This is a town of 5000 people. Everyone is realted somehow. We had this conversation at the teller's window although the manager did take me aside, all tht accomplished though was other people hearing. Not having actual cash on hand, though, is a red flag. To tell someone they can only withdraw $100 is insanity. |

OP don't fret. I used to work for one of the major banking institutions here in the U.S. Unfortunately, it happens, but it usually ends up being the Service Managers fault. Either he/she didn't do the order and Central sent the normal amount, or they forgot that it was the beginning of the month. Usually at my branch we always ordered more cash at the end and middle of the month. If this is something that happens a lot though, I'd think about changing banks. I know it's a pain in the butt to do that, but at least you'll have peace of mind knowing that you'll be able to take money out when you need it. |

Quoting: Seejanerun 1522339 You can use your debit card because it's just digital... just numbers on a computer screen. They don't literally take physical cash from the bank (your account) then transfer that money to a different account when you purchase something with it. Might just be a one time thing that the were low on cash. If it continues to happen then that's strange. I'm finally going to stop drinking for good... I'll now only drink for evil.

big banks have only $1 in capital (not cash) for every $50 they owe
they keep only a fraction of 1/50th as cash on hand
you need to beat about 99.99% in a bank run |

United States 09/01/2011 04:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: This is urgent and the most important post I will ever post here Related ??? I have had my Direct Deposit split between my bank and credit union for many many years. I have decided to close my account with the bank and just keep the credit union as the bank is going to begin charging a monthly fee for the debit card. They also charged me $21 for a reduced size of checks I ordered. I have had this account for over 15years and my reorders have ALWAYS been free. That is the background ... Here is the meat. My company, ( over 40k employees around the world), Direct Deposit is down / off line. I kept getting a server error after I deleted the bank and tried to make my Credit Union the primary. I made numerous calls today and finally tracked down our company's direct deposit specialist. I was told it is down, they are aware of it, and to keep trying. Perhaps that is all there is. It may just be down as it happens. It is just reading this makes me wonder if there is something more going on with ALL the banking . hummmmmmmm ... |
