When one sees it all strung together like this, it's hard to ignore. In fact it is hard to understand how others don't see it, too. I am sending this vid to my family. i agree electricity lines in america are a abortion mess, glutton companies charge mega for electric, soon as a little thunder or wind comes or freeze they fart. to expensive to buiry them, sounds like a better idea allround. capitalism suks ass. in fact goverments suk ass. glutton greedy old men , are on borrowed time. |

Some people just don't see the need to prepare many don't even want to hear about potential trouble ahead. I don't understand people who want to avoid recognizing danger. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers (Eph. 4:29) |

[/quote) Im so with you on this-- I have a friend who lives there who emailed from his Iphone and said they are ok, no power, and his best friends wife swept away when their porch broke off and was just washed away in a flodd of fast moving waters nasty events for sure! roads and bridges knocked out - power lines down, no way in our out! I dont think peopel realize that some rula areas are surrounding by a lot of rivers and creeks and low bridges etc, they are used to being in the city, with concrete I guess, is my only conclusion the U S is made up of many different geography and some of the most beautiful places have a lot of water around them,,, it doesnt take much wind or rain to cause a lot of damage either, also microbursts come up suddenly and disappear as quickly as they showed up, and tornaods and sudden gusts of wind blow in like a sudden power gargantua freak power waves in the ocean mother nature is a force we can not control - alot of water runs down stream from damns built to hold water, and sometimes they over flow - or water is realeased on purpose,,low lying areas etc, are always at risk - keep in mind, also a lot of rain in a short amount of time wipes areas out, torrential rains are amazing - first time I ever experienced that I had no idea what they were talking about, anything tropical from a storm is a sight to behold, but in Vermonts case the rivers and creeks were just overwhelmed,, also further NR had already been saturated? There was a lot of run off no one expected I guess. just a shame,, so sorry you have had to endure anything of this nature. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 391800 The Grid fails and Telco/Cable/Dsl/Fios etc all run on battery units in thos light span boxes. Remote Terminals, Fiber huts.. Look at the med to large telco boxes around your homes. If you see a generator hookup you know its for grid down and runs on ac with batteries inside. I asked an ATT Uverse tech how long. 4hrs max. Its chain so if the your central office is 1-2miles away every so many 1000' Feet is one of these units. The closer to the central office the more goes down. Every if your the last guy on the wire you might as well have cellular 3g-4g backup for internet maybe with a hotspot cradlepoint modem. They are great for DSL/Cable backup units. Old copper phones lines to your home will most likely still run as they are powered from the central office and that office should have a generator |
Ballchinian Top Hat User ID: 1491813 United States 09/04/2011 06:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I spent the weekend thus far building shelves for the multi-thousands of dollars of food we've bought over the last 6 months. We've got a storage now that may last longer than a year for our family, all things being equal. Problem 1. I live near a war-zone that, under normal circumstances, does not invade our daily lives. But that "zone", I'm sure, will be expanded when food runs out. 2. If the CME or EMP comes in the dead of winter or shortly before, the death toll will be much greater. 3. If the nuclear power plants run out of fuel before electricity is restored, our entire country will become a wasteland, food and shelter not withstanding. 4. I have a small arsenal but if we're being invaded 24/7, that small arsenal will soon deplete. 5. If the power outage is <3 months, America, I believe, can withstand it. If it's >6 months, we're in heap big trouble. Half the population will be gone. If the event lasts >12 months, only 5~10% of our population will remain. All this from the simple act of the Sun farting in our general direction....which, it does, in other directions, all the time. There is no doubt that we exist on a knife's edge of safety. That something so insignificant could cause a near extinction level event to occur in our country is rediculous...but true and most horrifying. Last Edited by USCG Popeye on 09/04/2011 06:17 PM |

None of us know when something will happen, This just shows that we need to prepare for anything. This was major for those who live there. Tomorrow it could be us. I try to prepare and I am kinda laughed at by my spouse, but he goes along to please me. Mom now has moved in with us and suprising she wants to help me have preparations for what may happen! Always thought she considered me crazy! So we do need to talk to our family and friends, you could be surprised. We stick together as a community we can do it. |

You don't need all that shit stored up in your house. You will get killed for it or have a huge target on your back. When your neighbors don't see you coming out looking for food every day how long do you think it will be before they come an knocking then a kicking at your door. They will burn you out of your bunker and take what you have. Nature has all you need to to live. Learn how to find it and utilize it. You need to be prepared to be mobile without a vehicle. You cant cart all that shit around if you have to leave and if you do your fucked. When TSHTF I plan on unlocking every door and window to my home turning off the gas and water lines and driving to a remote largely wooded area on my last tank of gas. Maybe when or if this blows over it will still be standing with minimal damage. I and my family will survive what ever the future may hold. SKILLS WILL BE YOUR ONLY SAVOIR! LEARN THEM NOW! |

FROM IRENE, BUT NARY A WORD ON GLP. BUT PREVIOUSLY SO MUCH INTEREST?!?? I guess they're still cut off from communication. I live in the NYC suburbs and just got power back a day and a half ago. Five and a half days without power, or well water. We prepared to the extent of filling bathtub and clothes-washing machine with water, and some containers, so we were able to muddle through and even save most of the food, but it did suck. We were very fortunate to have no house damage and only minimal yard damage. Folks with wet lots around here had trees blown down. We have lost track of a number of ongoing issues. Off the top of my head: What's going on in Vermont and the Adirondacks with Irene? What's going on along the Missouri River where it was flooded like crazy -- are the upstream lakes still at flood stage? Is the part of eastern Missouri that got flooded, when they diverted the Mississippi River to save Cairo IL, still flooded? |
