So why do they keep feeding them? When they know its killing them?

Yeah, a lot of Americans are fat, but frankly if they are including the many illegals from Mexico in that count, it's going to be skewed. Because so much of the Mexican diet is corn based, many of them are obese. Add to that the welfare moms getting the family food from McDonald's and you got some major fat going on. However, go to any middle class area, and most of the peeps are in in fairly good shape because they watch their diets closely and exercise. Oh yeah, Jaime Oliver rocks!

If a parent doesn't feed his children properly, because he's too lazy to homemake a decent meal and gives them coke, sweets and french fries everyday for lunch, then he deserves everything.

Nope but violence would seal the deal, they have to try and fight with lawyers, but it doesn't look good for them. I can't quite see why letting a 7 year old sleep at there dads if she falls asleep is bad, I wouldn't wake a child to take them home for 11 o'clock myself. Can't see whats wrong with a toddler crawling around either. Maybe the mum needed the loo. Oh no the baby is crawling on the toilet floor they would have come out with instead. The parents were never meant to win. All that's happened is social services messed up the kids they say they were trying to help.

I don't agree with this decision in any way. But all of us, as a culture, need to address the obesity issue.

Our school has adopted a healthy foods agenda. All food has to meet certain requirements if it is to be served or sold at our school, including lunches and concession stands. We have also told parents that it is necessary for them to follow these rules when it comes to kids' parties.

We started it last year, and some parents were so incensed. One parent even brought pizza and cupcakes to her kid's party in protest. Working a concession stand I got to hear the litany of complaints myself.

And I agree that it IS up to the parents to decide what to do with their own children, undoubtedly. But as a school we are meant to educate and lead the way... None of us were really crazy about the idea, but it HAS made a huge difference. I had the privilege of seeing kids make healthier choices when they weren't constrained by rules. Our own children have requested skim milk to drink at home. (Ewww... :o))

When I was with my mom at the hospital earlier this summer, I could not believe the number of obese people who were there visiting family. I'm not talking pleasantly plump or chubby, I'm talking obese. The kind of obese that brought stares in the 80's. And the nurses? Same thing. I couldn't believe how many would fit into the extremely overweight category.

I remember my own issues. I am still around the same weight I was in high school. I have a 10 pound range that I go back and forth in... I was considered chubby back in the day. Now I'm seen as skinny, bony even, and I assure you that I am not.

So no, don't take the kids away. Don't close restaurants. Instead, get rid of all of the PROCESSED foods from our own lives. Cook with butter, not margarine! Use unbleached flour. Stop buying foods that are already prepared. It is really easy to make your own dinner, and I honestly think that is part of the problem. It is just too easy to eat what is already made... When you make it yourself it takes longer, and it tastes better, and thus diminishes the overeating that so often goes on...

And GET ALL JUNK FOOD OUT OF YOUR HOUSE. Don't make it so easy. That way when you want junk food, you have to go out and get it... Keep fruit on hand instead. Simple things like this have kept me, my spouse and my children looking healthy.

Sorry for the rant, but this saddens me so very much.

I hear you about the violence and agree. Try everything first by legal means (getting a clue and fixing up your family obviously would be best) but taking the kids away is sure to screw them up more. I'm not proud to admit I'd snap if someone walked in and tried to take my kids, but snap I would. Aww crap that last bit sounded like Yoda. Snap I would. Screw this. I'm going to bed.

of course it is the parents responsibility, but you surely cannot agree with the children being taken from the parents and the family split up?

I posted offline, because I feared the backlash to what I said. I'm sorry, I should have "manned up" and posted under my name. I don't believe in the government taking children from their parents! That goes without saying! But I do believe, like I've already posted, that parents should be more awake to their children's needs. Look at yourself, then work out where your childhood failed/minus points and try your best to give your kids, what you didn't get. I didn't have a great childhood, but now I have a 3 year old daughter, I'm trying to give her things that I would have loved to have, but missed out on. No real disrespect aimed at my parents, but, they did what they thought was ok, according to their upbringing.

So, why are the still fat even after Big Brother has monitored and supervised them...for 2 years?
Maybe their obesity has nothing to do with food, and more to do with other health issues, or maybe it is genetic.

If you look at the picture, the three littlest ones don't look that bad. They look like typical chubby kids anywhere.

If these social workers wanted to be so helpful, maybe they could have shopped for the families' food and not let them bring anything else into the house.

If you don't eat that much, you will lose weight.

If the boy was really hit in the head by his dad, but then tried to defend him, maybe his dad just slipped up and the boy forgives him. Now the social workers seem to have it in for the family anyway.

No one is making the kids overreat. They are following a bad example somewhere. The social workers should be a positive influence but they aren't.

I don't think they should be in the house watching people eat and taking notes either, or worrying about when they check in. It sounds like a mental hospital where they torture you and cause you to mess up.

Instead of wasting all that money on a supervised apartment, maybe they could have just sent a chef to make healthy food, like Jamie Oliver.

Why is it ok to discriminate against overweight people? How about mean people, ugly people, people that worry too much, negative people, or whatever?

I'm sick of the mindset that it's always ok to hate on overweight people. Our society is too focused on people's weight and appearance. If we focused more on being decent and kind instead of hateful and shallow this world would be a much better place.

The social workers must think it is a health issue, but there is the issue of mental health as well. Children suffer in that regard when they don't have their parents.

I think people should stop judging others harshly for all of those reasons. Someone can't help their personality or looks either. People should work with others, and not just come in and punish others for things they can't really control.

The parents are fat themselves, so they obviously don't know how to eat correctly either. They all needed help, not an ultimatum resulting in separation.

Part of the reason healthcare is so expensive in the USA , is because we have such a huge population of lardasses. Obesity = unhealthy! Ohh gee who woulda thought?! And guess who pays for your lardasses healthcare? yeah, its everyone, including those of us who "actually give a shit about our health!", and we eat a balanced diet and exercise.

Fact is that most overweight people are not lazy pigs that sit around all day and eat burgers and fries. I'm so sick of people that say things like that because it's not true.

I've been overweight almost all of my life, and it runs in my family. I was thin once.......and to maintain that weight I had to eat 1000 calories a day and work out constantly. It was not sustainable.

I know many thin people that eat 2x what I do. It's a matter of genetics, and things that they have not yet discovered. They will discover why some people are predisposed to being overweight someday, and then finally people will stop with this sterotyping. It's just wrong, cruel and inhumane.

I'd rather be fat and kind, then thin and mean. There are alot more important things in life then what the scale says. Too bad that I didn't figure that out until I was middle aged instead of when I was younger because I could have saved myself a whole lot of grief with dieting and feeling bad about myself because I wasn't a size 2 when I was younger.

Let me tell you something, it is not as easy for these people as you think. They are not in the same state mentally and pysiologically as you to begin with. This is like breakin a drug addiction.

There is pressure to eat more and then pressure to stop eating. People get caught in between and don't know what to do. If they slip up, it send their body into a different state where they have to eat more to keep up.

People can stop the cycle, but it is hard. They don't need to be put down and judged, they need help and encouragement.

Let me tell you something, out of a family of 9, I am the only one that its not at least somewhat fat, do you know why? Because I eat only what I need to eat, and I exercise 5 times a week.

The rest of my family is either semi obese or obese and I am not surprised. I see what they eat when we are together. Every night for them its some kind of dinner with red meat, and then desert afterwards. The seem to be constantly "hungry" missing a meal for them would be something akin to starving to death.

Being obese and overeating is so far from the norm, so unnatural from the way we were designed to eat.

I love all the excuses from fat people about genes and such. Show me one example in nature of obese animals? Other than domesticated animals it does not happen. When I go to asia or other countries I don't see obese people everywhere. Why don't they have genetic problems or thyroid problems like the obese lazy pigs here?

Cuz they don't exist! Maybe one person in 100,000 has a problem like that, but yet it seems every fat person in the USA, which is like half the population now, uses that same excuse.

I don't think I am god's gift to the planet, and I don't think fat people are bad. I think fat people are lazy, and I am tired of society making excuses for them, and this liberal mindset that you can look however you want and we should not judge you for that.

My experience isn't an "excuse" or a "justification" because I couldn't care less what you think, or anyone else for that matter. I am what I am, and I"m happy and healthy with a wonderful family and a good life. You are far from happy or healthy, you're an angry, hateful, negative person. I pity you.

Maybe someday you'll wake up and realize that there is alot more to life then numbers on a scale. I've never read anyone's dress size on a tombstone, or heard mentioned at a funeral what the person weighed. Why? Because it's not important.
