Re: Why Not Redistribute Wealth?

I was approaching six figures back in 2007. Started a business with $400 in 1998 and built it up over the years. Then 2008 hit and my income was cut by about 60%. Four kids, mortgage, car payment. Been living hand-to-mouth for nearly three years now.

BUT, if I had several billions I would secure the basics for me and my family, set up to be self-sufficient, and teach people to fish. I, and surely no one does, don't need billions to live a high-quality life.

The problem will always be theft. redistribution is done through dishonest measures, namely lack of legal stand, to the property of others. Start by proving legal standing.

I'm looking at the big picture, trying to provoke discussion. Fact is, the world is a mess because of a century of greed-driven capitalism out-of-control. It's a foregone conclusion that the current system is in the process of imploding in collapse. We will pass through a period of economic depression through which many will not survive. I'm trying to figure out what the next economy might look like when it's rebuilt using this present economy as an example of what NOT to do.

I'm not a loser. I work as hard as I always did. It's just that I'm stuck in a system that isn't working for 98% of us.

Any positive, creative, out-of-the-box ideas to contribute?

Re: Why Not Redistribute Wealth?
How would you even begin to implement something like that? Who would be in charge of the redistribution? It's a total fairy tale.
 Quoting: HI.Lander

We could start by separating church and state (already done) AND separating corporations and state. Get corporations and their influence OUT of government, make monetary lobbying illegal, vote out all those on the take, and vote in only people who have the greater interests of society in mind.

Figure out an optimum income level for comfortability, and tax all income over that figure at 90%. That's pretty much how it was back during the Eisenhower administration. Reenact Glass-Steagle and shift the risk from financial gambling from the public to the gamblers. Use that 90% tax to ensure that everyone has a reasonable standard of living through earned income credits, and free education. Eliminate interest on loans, and abolish central banks.

For starters.

Re: Why Not Redistribute Wealth?
the elite will never allow this to happen, they are in the process of creating only two classes, the wealthy and everyone else and as you can see from the responses on here, they have the sheeple convinced this is exactly the way it should be...teenagers with $100,000 cars, 20 year olds spending millions on a wedding yet most folks on glp will tell you these people are simply smarter and harder working than you or else how could they be wealthy? the right wingers love the economic status quo and if you don't then you are a no good liberal commie pinko.

LOL, I can see the intent of this discussion must be waaay over your head, so you revert to ad hominem. And that you must believe the world and economy is just fine the way it is, can never be improved upon, and you don't mind having financial elite overlords controlling your economic life.

But I DO completely agree about your self-sufficiency paradigm, and that is exactly what I am advocating. The problem is not in being jealous or envious of the uber-rich, or in being lazy. The problem is a matter of barriers to entry, and the lack of equal opportunity in this present economy.
