Monkey eat fewer calories, monkey stay healthy longer
A 20-year study of monkeys shows that a reduced-calorie diet paid off in less disease and longer life, a finding that might eventually be applied to humans.

Half the rhesus macaque monkeys studied were allowed to eat as they pleased, while the other half ate a carefully controlled diet that provided just two-thirds calories they would normally choose to eat.

The dieters were three times less likely to die from age-related diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes over the study period than monkeys that ate as they liked.

This has been known for a long, long time.

Restrict your calories to around 1,200 per day, or 1,000 per day, live longer. Simple.

I think the theory is that it shuts down certain genes, putting the body in survival mode.

Meanwhile, people who are slightly overweight are more likely to survive an accident or illness than someone who is skinnier.

I refuse to starve myself to death to meet your idea of perfection.

Its true.. eating less calories and choosing a vegetarian based diet will yield a longer healthier life. It nothing to do with a "skinny" idealized media driven western culture.

Re: Monkey eat fewer calories, monkey stay healthy longer
I have been practicing calorie restriction for a while now and never get sick, not so much as a cold or mouth sore.

When you give your body few calories, it puts the immune system into a high activity state. If this is combined with a reasonably comfortable life-style otherwise, the result is that your body aggressively fights all pathogens and does a great job of screening out pre-cancerous cell growth as well.

The evidence is pretty overwhelming that eating less food means living a longer healthier life, up to 50% restriction of normal caloric need allowing for the necessary intake of vitamin and necessary nutrient levels.

The interesting part of the long term human studies I have read is that WHAT you eat when you eat less, again provided that you are not depriving yourself of the right nutrient levels, actually doesn't matter nearly as much as when you eat the same foods at normal intake levels.

You obviously didn't read the disclaimer that you have to add Yuppie-Lifestyle. (yuppy lifestyle not included with your purchase of too little food)

Re: Monkey eat fewer calories, monkey stay healthy longer
worrying about calories, carbohydrates, fat, and all the other foolish things they teach you fear about food is a worthless use of mental time.

If you would like to improve your eating health I would suggest looking into eating according to your blood type.

Ask yourself, how did our ancestors manage to live so long eating practically the same food if this food we have is so bad for us? And also how did our food get bad for us?

Finally why are we supposed to believe someone who tells us our food is bad for us?

Don't care to talk about processed food. Either don't eat it and be quiet or eat it and be quiet. We all know about it.

Reducing total caloric intake up to 50% has been demonstrated to improve health and longevity for a given mammal, at least for all the ones tested so far.
