I just wanted to add my voice to the many wishing NIN a speedy recovery, and thanking you for letting this little GLP family know that one of our own needs our positive energy.

Hang in their girls, we women can be really strong when we need to be. ltana

Ask the doctors lots of questions, don’t let them just skip out of the room, and see if they will let her have some Vitamin D3 capsules, which are beneficial in the immune system.

Give them this article to read…

“The role of vitamin D deficiency in sepsis and potential therapeutic implications.”

Patients with sepsis have a high mortality rate as well as a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency. In addition, septic patients have decreased vitamin D binding protein levels which further exacerbates vitamin D deficiency. Therapy with vitamin D in animal models of sepsis improves blood coagulation parameters in disseminated intravascular coagulation and modulates levels of systemic inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α and IL-6. Vitamin D can enhance the induction of the antimicrobial peptides cathelicidin and β-defensin which are found on mucosal and epithelial surfaces and act as the body's first line of defense against viral and bacterial pathogens.”

Since she has an injury to her sciatic nerve, I thought this might be helpful as well…

They studied D2 on this paper on nerve recovery after it had been severed. (This is available over-the-counter without prescriptions.)
“Vitamin D2 potentiates axon regeneration.”

“In the current study, we focused our attention on vitamin D, an FDA-approved molecule whose neuroprotective and neurotrophic actions are increasingly recognized. We assessed the therapeutic potential of ergocalciferol--the plant-derived form of vitamin D, named vitamin D2--in a rat model of peripheral nerve injury and repair.
We observed that vitamin D2 significantly (i) increased axogenesis and axon diameter; (ii) improved the responses of sensory neurons to metabolites such as KCl and lactic acid; and (iii) induced a fast-to-slow fiber type transition of the Tibialis anterior muscle. In addition, functional recovery was not impaired by vitamin D supplementation.”

Also another model:

"Vitamins E and D3 attenuate demyelination and potentiate remyelination processes of hippocampal formation of rats following local injection of ethidium bromide."

“Administration of EB alone caused demyelination, cell death, and afterward an endogenous repair. Vitamins E and D3 reduced the EB-induced damage and increased the endogenous remyelination of hippocampus. Although the anti-apoptotic effect of these vitamins and protection against demyelination were predictable based on their antioxidant effect, our results indicated the positive effect of vitamins E and D3 on process of remyelination by endogenous progenitor cells and supported their possible therapeutic effects in the context of demyelinating diseases like MS.”
