This as something to do with the NASA mission GRAIL. Bullshit about investigating the moon surface. They want to track 2005 YU55 and alter the course of impact, with the 2 satellites. (remember NASA said it was a military mission) The pieces are coming together now.
PIN this!
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1160603 Where did you read that NASA said GRAIL was military?
BTW, I spoke with a coworker who is recently ex-NASA (yeah, and I don't care what you think, so save your whining about your uncle, etc...) and I flat out asked why GRAIL would leave a few days ago on that Delta II, then arrive on New Year's, when we got Apollo 13 to the moon in a few days.
He said that with Apollo, they were constrained by keeping the astronauts alive. He also said that in this case they may be trading speed for energy usage. I asked what NASA needed to save on energy for, I mean, we're talking about a one-time acceleration. Why do you need to smell the daisies on the way to the Moon? Why not just get GRAIL there and park 'em or orbit 'em??
I asked if he thought that GRAIL was going to look at something else... that was a wasted question.
OK, tear into me. Whatever. Do what GLP does best. Vomit all over people.
