There is a crude sort of 'instrument' that is showing that a powerful gravitational force is approaching us. I just looked at the JPL orbit diagram for asteroid 2005 YU55 and the path of this asteroid is projected to come so close to Earth that the two small square-shaped symbols that represent the asteroid and the Earth overlap to some degree beginning on Oct. 28, 2011 and do not fully separate again until Nov. 21, 2011. The overlap looks to be the most complete for Nov. 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th. On Nov. 8th, the asteroid is projected to be only 0.0079 AU from Earth which is 1,181,824 km away from Earth. On Nov. 9th, the asteroid is projected to be only 0.0023 AU from Earth which is 344,075 km away from Earth. However, the distance from the Earth to the Moon only varies from between 356400 km and 406700 km, with an average of 385,000 km. Therefore, on Nov. 9th, at a distance from Earth of only 344,075 km, it is clear that this asteroid is projected to pass between the Moon and Earth. However, the difference between the Moon's minimum distance from Earth which is 356,000 and the projected distance from the Earth for the asteroid on Nov. 9th of 344,075 km is only 11,925 km which isn't much! The diameter of the asteroid itself is about 1300 feet or 400 meters. [link to www.space.com] As such, the asteroid is described as being the size of an aircraft carrier. WTF. Why isn't the public hearing more about this asteroid? The article linked below claims that the public should not be alarmed about this asteroid because based on its size and orbital characteristics it does not pose a threat to Earth until at least 100 years from now.
