I've got a solution that would make this entire debate disappear. Take marriage completely out of the governments hands and allow it to be a religious ceremony and only a religious ceremony. Or keep it in the governements hands and allow anyone to marry anyone. Bottom line being a separation of church and state. I'd personally like to see it as a religious ceremony rather than the economic transaction it currently is.
