United States 09/19/2011 07:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Postal Service union ad blames Congress for budget shortfall. Saw this on the Tube today. Three unions for post office employees launched a new television ad blaming Congress for the budget shortfall facing the United States Postal Service. “The Postal Service is recording financial losses, but not for the reasons you might think. The problem: a burden no other agency or company bears. A 2006 law that drains $5 billion a year from post office revenue, while the Postal Service is forced to overpay billions more into federal accounts," says the ad. The ad concludes: “Congress created this problem, and Congress can fix it." The American Postal Workers Union (APWU), National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Postal Mail Handlers Union joined together to promote the campaign. The ad will air on CNN, MSNBC and FOX News and run for approximately two months, according to an APWU news release. Last week the Postal Service announced it was considering closing nearly 250 processing facilities, cutting equipment by 50 percent and slowing mail delivery in an extreme cost-cutting effort.
