Sounds like a valid question.I dont know much about these things but also wondered why they didnt just blow it up like they have done others.Read in one story that it was carrying anything harmful so they let it do its on thing.Said they only blow them up if there is hazardous materials on board.Must now be hazardous to land on someone.. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1619306 United States 09/21/2011 06:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If there is any fuel left in it, NASA's probably waiting for the right time to do a retro burn to put UARS in the Pacific. That, or they're letting the Navy test out a new ASAT system on that bus-sized target in the sky. Perfect way to make the Navy look like heroes: NASA projects that the debris will fall over India, so the Navy shot it down so the junk burns up and saves the country. Plus, it'll damage China's military ego by showing them that we can shoot down their little spacecraft if they do anything "funny." |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1619306 United States 09/21/2011 06:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Within the next 48 hours or so, UARS will fly over China. time would be perfect for demonstrating the effectiveness of an anti-satellite weapon. The debris will probably fall somewhere east of the Phillipines, so the risk will be minimal, China gets a big shock, and the US gets bragging rights for saving the world. |

This could mean that, if there was anything left in the sat's tanks, NASA tried to use its thrusters to boost it up a bit to change its re-entry point and time. Trying to save the east coast? I say . |

Oh, and I'm a redneck, not a yankee. Though I disagree with slavery whole-heartedly. |
doom_mood User ID: 1604833 United Kingdom 09/21/2011 07:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think because the Earth is not a perfect sphere but bulges at the equator by anout 25 miles extra hence the reason why in a pole shift, its not the tsunami that kills some, but the fact that the land mass moves to an area of the earth where its deeper - the ocean. Its not actually any deeper but due to the shape of the earth that area of land is now submerged in water, its actually quite hard to explain. Last Edited by doom_mood on 09/21/2011 08:00 PM |
