Anonymous Coward User ID: 14464375 United States 04/15/2012 06:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Pickup truck drivers have the largest percentage of drivers who are assholes. Agree or disagree. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1740082 Your statement "More assholes drive pickup trucks, more than any other vehicle," means this "more assholes drive pickup trucks more than any other vehicle drives pickup trucks." It is a famous advertisement ploy such as "more people smoke camels, than any other cigarette," (smokes camels) That is how the English language is structured, where the end phrase is "understood." It is why they cannot really prosecute a company for false claims, say if some other cigarette really has more people smoking its brand, because the statement is absurd. You cannot really agree or disagree with an absurd statement. This is a good one! OP, it really depends upon who and what is driving and why they have that pickup. In ranch country, you simply cannot live without one because you're always having to haul stuff around and anything too close to the ground is going to get stuck in bad weather. In the cities, however, they have been a 'fad' for some time, particularly amongst new and illegal immigrants. The first two things the latter group buy in the States are the biggest pickups they can get and guns - and they haven't a license for either. In the Southwest, they're a real menace on the roads. Another thing you may not know is that in some states, if you live out in the country, or your parents do, you can license your truck as a 'farm truck' and pay less for your registration and tags than you would for conventional sedans. Having been a long haul driver myself, I should perhaps 'recuse' myself from a judgement on four-wheelers in general, whom I found a daily trial, not least because of the poor judgement displayed by the great majority on the highways. We can of course, say the same about the public concerning many other matters. Finally, have you tried to find a place on most new cars to make a magnet stick? Not easy! They're not exactly safe to be in and people are allowed to drive way too fast for those vehicles. That being the case, that you're sitting in a plastic drink cup that's going to kill you the first time you have a blow-out, your only safer alternative is to drive as much vehicle as you can around your little butt. |

They were apparently pickup drivers and were complaining about slower drivers not moving over into the slow lane and out of their way. They referred to the occasional signs about slower traffic keeping right. Those signs are directed toward drivers who choose to drive below the speed limit. They choose to ignore the much more numerous signs stating the speed limit. |

trey.kempf User ID: 39496118 United States 05/08/2013 01:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have often experienced tailgating by larger vehicles, even though I’m driving the speed limit. Sometimes it’s an SUV, but 90% of the time, it’s a pickup. They must think they own more of the road than other drivers. It must be a principle of theirs—“If you’re going slower than I am, you need to move over.” No matter that I'm already going the speed limit. They’re a real traffic hazard on the four-lanes. It’s unreasonable for them to expect other drivers to frequently and constantly change lanes and move over behind the 50 mph people just long enough for them to go by, just because they want to drive over the speed limit. Sometimes I flick my tail lights or turn on my emergency flashers, although that’s usually ignored. I’ll sometimes start slowing down to make it easier for them to pass. That doesn’t always work, either. I once backed somebody down to a dead stop. I couldn’t believe it. The driver actually sat behind me motionless for several minutes, then gunned it and sped by on the shoulder. Usually, though, after maybe half a minute, they decide I’m not going to move, and they go around. They often opt for revenge, however, by swerving into the other lane and then swerving back in front of me to teach me a “lesson,” I suppose, so close I nearly get the front of my car taken off. Maybe it could be called the pickup driver mentality. It’s a mindset that they alone appear to possess. I recently overheard a conversation between two males about driving on the freeway. Meanwhile everybody is racing around the parking lot like it is a Nascar track so you have to edge back slowly and look both ways and behind all at the same time, very nerve wracking! One Christmas eve in a parking lot someone in a gigantic suburban parked right next to me in a row that was clearly marked "compact parking only." I came out of the store and quite literally you could not have even put two fingers between their vehicle and mine they were so close! Thankfully no one was parked on the other side so I had to get in the bucket seat and over the gearshift to get in driving position, not so easy once you get this old and this bottom heavy! LOL |
