Chinese solar company buys former IBM West campus for US headquarters

POUGHKEEPSIE – A Chinese solar technology manufacturing company has purchased the former IBM West campus in East Fishkill and plans to invest $100 million and hire up to 1,000 people to establish its US headquarters there.

The announcement was made Friday at Marist College in Poughkeepsie.

Linuo Solar Group Co. plans to create up to 150 permanent jobs at the factory in 2012, with additional jobs coming as it begins production on its first solar products in early 2013.

Of the $100 million investment, about $40 million will be used for production equipment, $30 million will be used for building renovations and $20 million will be used as working capital.

Linuo produces technical and laboratorial glass products, industrial equipment and solar thermal tubes that are smooth, non-porous and transparent.

The effort to bring the company to the Hudson Valley was used a team approach involving economic development and government officials on the regional and county levels.
