Smart meters/Faraday shield help??

I recently received a letter in the mail stating that the power company is going to install a Smart Meter on the house I currently rent

I apparently don't have much say in whether it's installed or not. The meter is mounted outside, on the wall of the room I spend the most time in, and the main thing I'm concerned with is the microwave radiation blasting my girlfriend and me multiple times per day. My work desk is less than 6 feet from where this thing is going to be emitting its signal, and I'd like to shield myself from it. I don't care about messing with the electric company, I just want to avoid as much of the radiation from this thing as possible

I was thinking of simply hanging a flat rectangular piece of grounded aluminum foil inside (right where the meter is mounted outside) to hopefully reflect the signal away from my workspace and away from the majority of the house. Will this work at all? Do I need some material other than aluminum foil? Is the thickness of the foil sheet important? Does it need to be a different shape than just flat (like a dish, etc)? To ground it, should I just connect a copper wire to it and run it out through the wall and into the ground? Any tips, advice, etc are appreciated
