My own doom started yesterday!!
My mum has Alzheimer's, she had a stroke 5 weeks ago, and then yesterday had a very bad one again. They've told us if anything 'happens' they won't resuscitate her, as her quality of life would be very poor. They say the strokes will become more frequent and more serious. I understand why they've said it. But i'm finding it hard to accept she may leave us shortly. She is one of the very few people i truly love and care for!! For selfish reasons i don't wanna be an 'orphan', we lost dad when i was only 30!! How does anyone deal with this??

My Fellow Irishman.

I feel for ya, I really do. My Aunt, who I was extremely close to, had the same thing happen to her.

We fought through the courts to have them keep her alive, we won the case.

WORST MISTAKE THAT WE EVER MADE!!!

Whilst it is hard to let them go, you have to think about the person effected.

Your mother will have no life AT ALL, except for pain. It is for the best.

At least you know that it is coming, surround her with her things that are important to her and make the remaining time confy for her, and for you.

I know that it cannot be easy to see a future without your mother, but, really, you are much much stronger than than you think.

Take grate comfort from the fact that you still have others that you love around you, to help and guide you.

Be well and I will pray for you.

Thank you for you kind words. You're right, i'm not gonna think of her 'gone', i know it's for the best. But for the moment she's here now and needs us, so i will do my utmost to make the end of her days as happy as i can.

Good. So you should.

Do not think off her as gone, think as he away to a better life when it happens.

Re: My own doom started yesterday!!
OP,
I feel for your situation. But, if she's to the point where she'll never be functional again, then she's most likely ready to leave her body.

That's very hard to say about your mother, but if you can do it, sit with her, hold her hand, and tell her softly that you are with her, and that it's OK for her to let herself slip away.

You'll see her in heaven, and she'll be watching out for you from there for the nonce.
