Apparently it's not an actual scientific paper, though I'm sure someone picked up the story from scientists shitting themselves over something credible. I'm too lazy to find the source right now. If the magnetic field was able to crap itself and let a CME directly hit Norway I don't think it's too far fetched.

Now in 2012 the suns poles will reverse (not the earths as wrongly said on many 2012 sites - see below!) , during this time a massive solar storm will reck havoc on earth - usually this is no problem - but now due to the 'cracks' in it, Earth's protective Magnetosphere may fail us, so the violent solar and electromagnetic radiation will make it through and cause many problems to life as we know it (eg: disabling communication satellites, mobile phones, effective sleep patterns, & radiation poisoning of humans) Also as earth has to absorb extra radiation & energy this will cause possible changes within the earth's core - with energy being re-dissipated from the earth with new volcanoes formed and crust movement.

There are those that are convinced that these "cracks" in the Earth's magnetoshpere originate from atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons way back in the 50's and 60's.
Hence the rushed ratification of the nuclear test ban treaty of 1963.

Perhaps this is the solar system's immune system at work; it is detecting unbalanced radiation levels on our planet and is going to speed up the radioactive decay rate just to fix the problem quickly enough for life to go on in the case of a radioactive disaster.

(Just a fanciful thought that allows the 'end of the world' to occur without radiation... which in my mind is currently impossible due to all the nuclear plants etc.)

I would have thought that since this activity is recent with the past couple years, that maybe it's more along the lines of that giant plasma cloud / photon band / magnetic ribbon thingy everyone keeps speculating about. To me all those three are one in the same thing given what they supposedly do.

We're supposedly already in it, within the outer edge and as we move closer supposedly the sun's activity will increase as the heliosphere is "popped" by this thing. Just speculation.

Well it made think back to something else I had read somewhere recently which I think was legit. In that they had taken these ice samples which they dated back some 12,000 years, there was something about them which proved this cycle of "mutation" or evolution that seemed in sync with this photon band/ magnetic ribbon/ plasma cloud.

Wish I could remember what that was.

Probably this. We need to evolve to the kind of environment we live in, which doesn't require any basic form of intelligence. :)

Well chyea, if you bothered to read the thread I said it wasn't a scientific paper. However that doesn't necessarily make it totally invalid. It had it's origins somewhere, and given recent events I don't think it's a stretch.

And this is probably said origin. A little research never hurt.
