why are wall street protestors repeating every word said by visiting speakers? NLP?

apparently, protestors are not allowed to use megaphones. so when people come to speak to them, the protesters repeat every word. i guess so that the people in the back can hear what is being said. When you concentrate on remembering words,so you can repeat it, you end up not dwelling on the meaning of what was spoken. so the protesters just repeat, instead of 'listening' and analyzing the validity of what was said.
