I've seen some nasty things while working for the emergency services... the best thing to do is talk about the incident 'de brief' go over it in detail with friends and loved ones to help you make sense of it all. You couldn't have done a thing to help them so don't beat yourself up about that. BUT... please please go and buy a fire blanket and extinguisher for your own car.... ((hug)) |

The people inside were already goners. Nothing could have saved them. Dont go thinking, oh I could have done this, I could have done that... Life happens and nothing anyone can do. Its good to know thought that you have heart to stop and check, Lots of people just keep on driving and dont even give it a second glance. |

I still work with my volunteer FD although we do not roll out very often. It's a terrible thing you've seen, however, if you were not related to them or close friends, do yourself a favor and don't dwell on it. It'll drive you nuts! I know, I had a call with a small child that was the son of a high school acquaintance. The child died while I was working on him, one minute he was talking, crying for his mom, dead the next. Nothing I did, just catastrophic injury. Please, talk to someone, take stock of your life, stay away from Uncle Pharma's happy pills, and then let it go. Hugs and good feelings to you for trying to help. (GLP aka American Jedi) Listen here you beautiful bitch, I'm about to fuck you up with some truth. Apparently, you were being looked out for last night if you were only seconds behind this accident. I've said a prayer for those involved, and one for you to help ease the trauma of what you witnessed. .....And Grace will lead me home. |

Maybe they got out and left before you got there. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2719747 Anywho, those semi trucks are out of control. Maybe it was an illegal alien. They have been allowed in the country over the road. The SUV was upside down and the drivers side was squished and it was pitch black outside. It started on fire right away. |

You did all you could at the time, and that was good of you to stop your car instead of just driving on as some would do. At least it would have been very quick for the occupants of the car. It might give you some comfort to read some near death experiences, so you can see it isn't all bad for the people who died, they are in a better place than here. Hope you can get some sleep soon. |
anonymous321 User ID: 2671106 United States 10/06/2011 08:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Last night around 7:30 PM on the highway coming home from work I came upon an accident between a semi and a SUV that had just happened moments before. Quoting: Kate 2760728 It was just awful, the SUV was upside down on the side of the highway and the semi and trailer across it. There was a car in front of me that had pulled over and the guy got out walking around to see what happened. I pulled over behind him and got out to join him. It was pitch black out except for our head lights. This guy and I went to the SUV and started yelling to see if anyone was alive in it, it was so squished. We didn't hear a thing. Then the SUV started on fire. We both ran to our vehicles to get what ever water we had (bottled water) and I called 911. Other vehicles came and pulled over and someone had a flash light, more people got water but the SUV started to engulf in flames. We had to jump in our vehicles and drive them into the ditch to get further away from the fire that was growing bigger by the moment. I called 911 again in a panic asking when help was coming. Telling them we need fire trucks, ambulance, police. Time stood still. The SUV became completely engulfed and I have never in my life felt so helpless. We watched someone (or more people?) burn to death. We had no idea how many were in the vehicle. I ended up living after the ambulance came. There was a lot of people around by then. I think I've had an hour sleep throughout the night haunted by what happened. I'm sure it will be on the news today and I'll post a link here when I find one. I'm scared to learn how many where in the SUV because we couldn't see. How awful. |

Don't Blame yourself for anything that was beyond your control, At least you tried. Thank you for what you did. And if for anything The Person or Persons that were in that Vehicle are in a Better Place and I know you have heard that many times but it is Totally True. God Bless You For What You Did. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1968757 United States 10/06/2011 08:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I always carry fire extinguishers in my vehicles after witnessing something similar.... Although I haven't saved any lives with them, I did save a vehicle that had caught fire (a new V10 Ford that was spewing ATF fluid onto the exhaust and had caught fire) and I know that person was grateful.....but who knows in the future.... I recommend everyone carry a full size fire extinguisher if you have the extra money right now..... |
