Poison and Faster Pussycat and all those suckpill losers were NOT glam rockers. They were HAIR BANDS. Glam rock is from the 70s. Ziggy Stardust, Mott the Hoople, Queen, that kinda thing.

"it all looks gay to me"

Canīt argue with that, just pointing out to the young īuns that glam rock existed before lame-ass talent-free hair bands.

Re: Remember the good old days of Glam Rock?
Eno certainly acts/looks like what might be considered gay. Remember the film about glam with Ewan McGregor (canīt remember the title) - that was all about Roxy Music, Bowie, Eno, Reed, etc.

Of course, I was only 6 at the time. Retro avant garde for me.

Those were the days. Thank goodness, through all itīs campiness, we that grew up in that era had something all our own and not the rehashes. No wonder rap and hip hop is so popular. At least itīs original.

Re: Remember the good old days of Glam Rock?
Glam killed the good Metal in North America, the hairspray and spandex made headbangers like me cringe and puke, all the posers and mainstream turned Metal into a circus of ridicule.

I resent this terribly that we (North America) used to be cool and had a thriving scene of Metal talent. Now itīs all rap shit garbage and techno rubbish, pop crap and other mindless, useless dribble not worth a mention.

You look at Europe, South America, Japan the Metal scene rules and has for many many years,Their not about jumping on every little queer fad that comes around. And I know I build drum kits for a living and a large portion of our customers are overseas, with some exceptions here in N.A.

Its slowly starting to get back but theres alot of catching up to do. Long live Metal.

Re: Remember the good old days of Glam Rock?
Some of the guys I knew from Chicago were into the glam-rock jive. I liked Bowie, and Hoople; they were a good band even before all the young dudes. New York Dolls was one helluvan album. Buncha pukes in drag on the cover. Mick Ronsonīs slaughter on 10th Ave was a good record.

From about 74 on; Rock sucked, big time. There was really nothing for a Texas boy to listen to but Country. Could never get into Queen, Boston, Rafferty, Velvet Underground and/or Lou Reed. I mean, walk on the wild side? Oh get real.

Rock was the pits until Neil Young put out Rust Never Sleeps.

Oh, punk rock was okay; but tame. Had the promise of violence, but all show no Altamont.

Still enjoy hearing Sufragette City

Re: Remember the good old days of Glam Rock?
Roxy Music is one of my all-time favorites. I have all of their albums and solo efforts.

Saw them on their first American tour at Cobo Hall in Detroit ( Early´72?) and have been a fan ever since, even catching them in Chicago on their reunion tour.

The line-up for the concert was an odd combination: Dave Mason, Roxy Music and the headliners... Humble Pie! ("We go ´ome on Monday. It´s really been a gas this time. Really been a gas.") Choice seats were around... six bucks.

The lights went out. Eno´s VCO3 synthesizer came on droning and bubbling while a Brit´s voice kept repeating "Elevation number 23" over and over for what seemed a minute in total darkness. Then the lights came back on and they went through the all (or most of) the first LP tracks; Remake/Remodel, Virginia Plain, etc.

I was, frankly, blow away by them.

Of course, the strawberry mescaline was exceptionally good that night, as well...

Which way was I passing this? I forget...
