Well it would depend on the actual wording of any resolution, but they'd veto anything that was stronger than the current sanctions.

which in essence makes going to the security council..except for the purpose of saying "we tried going to the UN" pretty useless...which to me means something is in the offing either covertly or a series of punitive strikes against select Iranian targets such as Kuds force installations or units currently operating near the Kurdish region of Iraq

That's possible, but I don't know whether the West would want to risk hitting Iranian territory directly, simply because they might be worried about oil prices going up if Iran escalates it.

Oil is going to go up anyway because of this incident, this type of poential attack does require some kind of response.

I agree that it requires some response, but I'm not sure the US government will (Biden's comments this morning notwithstanding). They might leave it to Saudi Arabia or they could do something covert.

Of course they could also give Israel the green light they've been waiting for for 6 or more years.

was thinking about that and this whole shalit deal that just happened....normally they would never give such a concession so it struck me as odd that they did this time...unless they are getting more than just shalit in this deal.

Yeah, the Shilat deal did seem odd, although I think they have made similar deals in the past.

notice how they are issuing apologies though...to Egypt about the shooting of the police...if they apologize to Turkey...then I'm sure that something is up that's bigger than this Shalit deal

Nice of them to keep us all updated like they do..key words being 'exposed after.'makes you feel safe... but why would Iran want to bomb the USA?

Reuters is reporting that Manssor Arbabsiar was arrested on September 29 and the assassination plot began to unfold in May 2011 when Arbabsiar approached an individual in Mexico to help, but that individual turned out to be an informant for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.


I find the timing of this whole thing a bit odd. Holder is in deep shit because of his antics with fast and furious, perhaps this is a way to sway the public to look the other way.

I doubt very much if anything will come of this.
