Says the cat from Romania? Really? There are roughly 6 million private sector companies in this country. All of them are always attempting to grow because that's what businesses do, otherwise the presidents and ceos would be fucked. It really is that simple.

Then i invite you here in Romania, lol.
Just read the newspaper articles, this is why more then 4 mil of romanians left the country.

Just my 2 cents...Business owner for 18 years still can't hire employees, husband and I still doing the work when and if we can get it insurance companies low balling us because we are a small business or the IRS. No loans to start the business sold everything we had and took a loss on most for this business. What I found is that between the overhead and mostly Taxes working 7 days a week 12 to 15 hours a day we can not for the life of us get enough money for homes bills most of the time. Needless to say we don't have health insurance because the shop insurance took priority in order for us to have a place to work. Many stop by looking for a job and I have to decline because of the outragious amount of taxes a business has to pay for each employee not to mention the quarterly taxes, yearly taxes and taxes that are added regularly

We pray nothing serious happens to our health because yeah we will loose everything we worked very hard for, my point there is no security in busting your butt and what kind of life does one live working like this? It's not living it's barely surviving is all!

Re: Why don't you do the math before you tell these kids to not borrow money-- or get a job!
Threads like this really disappoint me. The real TRUE horror of this discussion is that we have been played.. not by the bank, not by the "market", and not corporations - but by our government. They NEED us to be dependent. We have been guided down the golden path of socialistic thinking so long that the discussion is now clouded by so many definitions of "rights" that we can no longer focus on the underlying truth. Many of us are totally dependent on some one else for our very existence. And many have grown to know no other life. Our society has become so immune to reality that we now expect wealth redistribution - and ignore the fact that it is nothing more than the confiscation of someone else's money and property.
We have come to expect so much for nothing that there is no longer ANY incentive to be productive. It's easy to understand - we see it written every day. Why should I work so someone else can sit on their ass and get things I can not afford handed to them by our government? Where is MY right to keep what I earn?
If you don't like your life - don't blame anyone else. Get off your socialistic occupying ass, turn off your x-box, get rid of your i-phone and get a job, or 2..like the rest of us.
I come from a family of workers.. we provide for our families, and live within our means. I am the 53..

Re: Why don't you do the math before you tell these kids to not borrow money-- or get a job!
My parents both dropped out of school when they were 17 and they both immediately got jobs with the government (with only a Grade 11 education). After working about 40 years, they both retired at the top of their respective fields and now draw around $300 thousand in iron-clad government pensions (plus perks). They are not particularly bright or ambitious (sheeple mentality); this kind of career track was the norm for government workers who hung in there, year after year.

I mention this brief history because that was then and this is now. If you dropped out of high school today, there would be no government job with all the perks waiting for you. In particular, the employment field has been altered drastically over the past 20 years, and not for the better. In some cases, wages have risen only a few dollars, remained stagnant, or even declined. After graduating university in the late 1980s, I started doing temp work at $12 to $16 per hour. The wages for that same job, more than 20 years later, are today around $10. In the late 1980s, a bachelor apartment was $250 to $300 a month. That same apartment is now around $1,200. We won't go into how food and every other cost has likewise exponentially risen.

Without credit or loans, people starting out today cannot survive unless they pool their resources, live four or five to a bachelor apartment, and work 80 hours a week. The "good" jobs are few and far between. Dropping out of high school and nabbing a cushy government job for life is simply no longer possible.

I feel sorry for the kids. I'm not surprised that most of them drink or smoke themselves into a stupor every night. We have created an unsustainable world, right across the board. There was a piece in my local news paper this morning about how retired professors at a local university earn their full salary as a pension until they die. The university is having problems paying the pensions (there's a shortfall of $270 million this year), which will then be paid by taxpayers. This is only one example.

My parents' generation have lived unrealistic, unsustainable lives and set unrealistic, unsustainable goals. In doing so, they've set themselves up nicely in a system that is ponzi by nature, but the scheme is now unraveling. This is a cold hard fact. Don't blame the kids. That they're only 'occupying', is a blessing. If I were 30 years younger, I'd be getting out the pitchfork.

Re: Why don't you do the math before you tell these kids to not borrow money-- or get a job!
I know people will probably give me bad Karma for saying what I am about to say, but reality stinks and people really need to get their heads out of their rears on this stuff.

Most of those complaining about how hard it is must like to complain about shit instead of getting up and doing something for yourself. Most of you have a computer. Instead of surfing around reading sites like this, MSM sites or your favorite animal porn sites...why not take the time to create a site of your own about something you like to do or enjoy being part of and invest your unemployed time into it to make it grow? You can buy domains as little as 1.99 and I have seen hosting for as little as 5.99 a month on a shared server.

So you say you can not afford this? Then don't eat your McDonalds slappy meal for lunch or don't go and get yourself a soda. heck you can go out and do side work like mowing a lawn or even do yard clean up and get paid up to $30 bucks like the teenagers do. Since everyone wants to do estimates on here then with just 4 yards you have now paid for one year of hosting and your domain name. Now you can go sit back and collect your UE check for 99 weeks and invest this time into building your site and content.

It is called investing in yourself. It really is not that hard to do. There is enough freeware forum software, blog software and the likes out there to get your site rolling. Now you have free software and if you are unemployed then you clearly have the time to bone up on the way it works. Once you have done this you go to one of the many ad serving sites and sign up. They cost nothing. Throw the ads up. Now start filling your site with content. Promote the site on other sites.

Now the income may not be 2k a month to start and may not even earn anything the first month, but you have planted that seed. Keep it up. Keep promoting it. Keep adding content. Heck ad more advertising for other companies and take a percentage from those sales too. Eventually it ads up. It can pay for itself and it can start paying for the things you need and even the things you want.

Some of you will say it is not that easy. It is. I have a HS education. I worked for pittance to save up enough to get the things I needed to survive day to day. I then saw others making money off of what I was reading and surfing in my down time from work. I spent $100 and set up my own site. I added content. I made online "friends" and got them involved in promoting the site they were visiting. After about 3 months the site was paying for itself and putting $200 a month into my pockets. After a year it was earning well over 1200/mo and after 3 it was making me well over 10k a month. All of this through google ads. I have since sold the site for a nice sum, but I have also started other sites while working on this original site. Those sites still earn me 4 figures a month per site.

I have spent a total of 1 hour a day on these sites and this was also during my off time from my job. I still work this crappy job to this day for insurance purposes due to 2 small children with medical conditions. I earn 51k a year at this crappy job, but earn four times that on my sites. I do sock away the money by investing into Gold and silver....no I am not a silver or gold tard....and also sock away into preps. We have put away 4 years of food supplies for the family so far.

We took this money we earned to pay for our house and cars. We do not have debt...knock on wood...and do not plan on it. We keep enough cash on reserves if something were to happen.

This can be done. It is not that hard. If people would pull their collective heads out of their collective @5535 and use their time/energy wisely then they could have more knowledge and earn an income off of it.

People just need to get a job, spend their time and money wisely and they would be able to get out of the holes they are in.

BTW we own our house. Is it a McMansion? No we live within our means. We own a 2005 truck and a 1999 van. All the upkeep is done by myself. Oil, brakes, shocks, driveline, etc. are all done by me. It requires nothing but reading a book to understand how to do things. Yes, I even did my own lower intake gasket on my wifes Venture van. Saved me 900 in just repair bills.

Being frugal is not hard to do. The last time I bought new clothes was back in 1999. There is no reason why others can not do what I and many others do and have done.

Sorry for the ranting but it is getting pathetic seeing these threads about how hard it is to earn money, find a job, pay for things...etc. it is only as hard as you make it.

I don't blame the kids. Maybe its the parents who failed to live within their means(and teach their children the same) and set a bad example.

Look at society and the parent of today. We've become so materialistic the we've lost the basics.
 Quoting: LilOleMe

This is it, my friend! I'm 50 and my parents didn't save a dime for my education. They helped with it somewhat when the time came but I started with a small trust fund of $5,000 and student loans. Other than that, I worked while in school. But, you make a very good point, and not to stereotype but look at the jewish people; they save for their kids education, they teach their kids to save, they teach them all of the important stuff and it continues through the generations. They don't say, "if I go to college", they say, "when I go to college". Not going to college for them is NOT an option so they plan for it the same way you plan to go to high school or anything else.

It's extremely difficult to break that cycle of poverty if you don't have the means to do so. I'm only making $44K a year right now and I feel blessed. I have MUCH more than many people and I'm truly grateful.
I only believe half of what I read and even half of that is bullshit.

Re: Why don't you do the math before you tell these kids to not borrow money-- or get a job!
You are soooooo effing right.

It was tough for one to live on 1700 a month back in the late 70's. And things were cheaper then.

And now I have MS and can't work and my spouse works for 1/3 what his resume is worth - just to even have a job with benefits.

What we bring home now is equivalent to $20,000 less than what he made when he first got out of college.

And now we are trying to put a kid (autism/lite) through college at a state institution that offers his higher math/science degree (because kid his high IQ and is pretty brilliant - even the profs say so). Not some worthless liberal arts degree.

Plus pay all the medical bills that the insurance doesn't cover (ridiculously high co-pays, and pays almost nothing for drugs).

The only saving grace we have is that I foresaw the housing crisis and we decided to move out of the big suburb and big house, to the country on a few acres with a used mobile home.
JUST TO GET DEBT FREE (from the equity in our house - I kind of feel sorry for the people that bought it, because the appraised value went down about 35% within 2 years of them buying it).

Now, we don't have cable, or go out to eat or to the movies. We drive cars that are (well maintained, but) 14 years old and paid for.

We eat a lot of peanut butter (which is going up) and cheap chicken. Try to make and grow what we can.

We are in our fifties and struggling to make ends meet like we did when we were in college.

Our retirement funds were mis-managed and depleted by a sheister 'financial advisory' company (Ameriprise). So we have no retirement.

Basically, we are now screwed because of the mess this country is in.

So I just keep thinking: Where is the big space rock?

That is what this country has come to. We were once (low) upper middle-class. At this rate it won't be but a few more years and we will be begging on the street.

And, about the 'go get a job' group. FIND MY SPOUSE ONE, please - one that pays at least more than half of what the resume should be worth.

And the kids - Most of them can't find jobs (above min rage) either ------ BECAUSE THEY HAVE ALL BE SENT OVERSEAS.

If you are lucky, and have a decent paying job - be thankful and don't knock people who don't/can't.

Everyone is just doing the best they can to survive at this point.

And, btw, college costs at a cheap university are closer to $5000 - PER SEMESTER!

Yep - feels like slavery to me.

It is up to individuals to create jobs in America. If people choose not to risk and be an employee all their life, well fine. Live in an apartment and ride the bus then.

America is about excellence. People need to create businesses and employ others. Few can start life this way, but anyone can finish this way.

Then you pay cash for a car and a house.

I've been self employed for 38 years.

"Making a job" is no different that finding a job. To make your own job you first need to have the investment resources to set yourself up. I own a machine tool business with 12 million dollars of equipment in it, THAT'S ALL PAID FOR, and it's STILL difficult to make a profit when I have to compete with slave labor in China. It took 38 years to get where I am, if I had to pay down debt and interest too, I'd be fucking bankrupt!

Secondly, you need a market for your product or service. Who is going to buy it from you, other poor people? Are you going to do lawn care for people that are unemployed and have nothing better to do than mow their own lawn?

Just telling someone to make their own job sounds cliche but it's many times harder these days to start any business that will create a significant cash flow in a cash starved society.

Re: Why don't you do the math before you tell these kids to not borrow money-- or get a job!
This is why I just love these get a job people. And these you should pay cash for a house and car people.

Let say a kid gets out of college with a degree and finds a job or jobs. Right now 40,000 a year would be huge for most to find and probably very unlikely for a graduate, but we will use this number.

So after taxes, ss, state tax if you have one, medical, dental, life, medicare etc

Your bring home is about 1300-1200 every 2 weeks
This is 2600-2400 a month.

Ok letís pay some bills.

Monthly

Rent 750-Very modest guess. All know some will lower, higher
Car 200- very low cheap car.
Car insurance 100 for decent
150 electricity-- very low for most
50 for gas if you have it.
100 for vehicle gas.

No cable or internet cause we don't want to live to great.
No cell phones because we can't afford this luxury.

Groceries
400 a month.

This is not eating out at all or getting anything from quicky mart. This is very modest considering prices now.

So we are at 1750. From 2600 using the high number this leaves us about 850, but wait. We went to college.

So since we didn't come from rich parents we have to pay for that. Let's say we go to a small cheap school and work part time to pay the room and board.

2000 a semester. Very low price compared to 90%

4 years of school. By the way it is almost impossible to get a 4 year degree anymore, especially while working.

So 4000 a year x 4 years is 16000.

16000 is about a 400 payment a month on student loans.

Now we are up to 2150 - 2600 leaves us about 450 extra.

We are not including any movies, out to eat, up keep on car, pops-candy, lawn care for rent house, medical bills for co-pay, etc.

Hell we will round it up to a big $500 a month extra. Now letís start saving so we can pay cash and not borrow.

First we need a house and car.

Modest house 150,000. NO LAND besides lot and this probably doesn't exist in price in most places.

So $500 a month savings = $6000 a year.

So it will only take 25 years to save cash for a house at this price.
But wait--in 25 years that house will cost twice that because of inflation.
So 50 years.

Ok letís get a car.
3 years = 18000 which will buy a piece of shit. These cars normally last 5 years maybe a little more, and they are worth shit nothing when you try to sell them back.

So we get a trade in for $6000 after seven years with the first car we bought. We have to buy a car every 7 years at 18,000.

We will need around 4 cars for the next 28 years, first one being bought for full price. 18000 + 12000 + 12000 + 12000

Hell this is only $54,000. That is another 9 years of saving on top of the 50 for the house. Plus we only figured the cars for 28 years not counting inflation.

So with the math if we started when we are 22 we might have enough cash for a house and keep our cars paid for in cash by the time we are 80 or more.

We won't be able to retire or afford anything else, but by God WE WONíT BE BUMS.

So all you people saying that you pay cash for all your shit and are not in debt are either full of complete shit or came into money somewhere. I suspect most of you got your cash from your momma and you are the true bums. Some of you might have worked your way up the ladder, but at what cost. Some might have built a successful business and are very lucky because if you tried that shit now you would be screwed.

Point being in this long ass post.

Quit blaming these kids. Go get a job is not going to fix shit and you know it. Do the math. Slavery is the end game and they got it.

You say people need to create business and by this they create jobs. I agree except for there is no way to create business, so there are no jobs.

The people that have the money to invest, to start business are not doing it.

You clearly have zero clue how banks function, then and now. Also you're "math" in your original post is composed of un-educated guessing around tax rates and costs of living. Each state is vastly different in this area. Typically, states with higher costs of living offer higher incomes/tax breaks to offset this. As far as your generalized idea about getting a job and paying cash, I have a wife and two children in TN, and we are single income at $10/hr. We have cellphones, internet, and the rest of the bills you listed.

You are right, it is extremely difficult these days, however I don't take a dime of welfare to make things happen when it comes to supplying a roof and food. It's called hard work in hard times. Americans, historically, have gotten shit done via this method. Nowadays people want the givernment to hand some shit out to make things easier. It all started will bloated and ever-growing welfare. That's where it will end. Folks need to feel what running on survival instinct is like. This has been forgotten.

It's not easy, but it's doable. I applaud your attempt at bitching, but it's a tad misplaced.

Understand that maybe doable will work today, but what about tomorrow. All you people saying "it's possible, work extra jobs, work 80hrs a week and you can survive!". What about tomorrow?? You bs artists are all the same. While you may survive today, it's tomorrow people are realizing is the problem. Are you going to respond the same way in 5years when there are no jobs and inflation has gone to the point where, omg guess what, the OP's 40k won't even cut it.......

Tired of the bullshit from alot of people on this site lately, especially Trin. It isn't about today, it's about tomorrow. It's either change happens now, or most people will not be able to survive in America any longer. It is slightly doable now, but not one person is coming back and saying it will be doable in five years, which by then.....it wont

Re: Why don't you do the math before you tell these kids to not borrow money-- or get a job!
AMEN to the OP! And your figures were very much on the lowside. Starting salaries in my neck of the woods are 28k for a decent job, but all the expenses are much higher. I really don't know understand how anyone can criticize this movement when things are so dire.

Here is my situation--I have a 4 year degree in education, but due to budget cuts the school system in my area is hiring a very minimal amount of new teachers. I have been looking for a job in another field (mostly clerical--$12/hour work) and have probably applied for over 50 positions and so far heard nothing.

The only reason that I'm even looking for a job is because food prices have gone up so much that we can't afford to live on one income any longer (I've been a stay at home mom since my kids were born). I guess I picked a terrible time to get back into the workforce.

Anyway, just wanted to say kudos to the OP for bringing awareness to these issues!

I do sympathize with you to a point. And where did those "budget cuts" come from? And donít blame us taxpayers. Our property taxes have gone up exponentially over the years, and the government has thrown billions at education. Just like Wall Street, the top 1% in education (the bureaucracy) are raking in big salaries and benefits and then having the gall to claim we hate children and teachers.

I agree there is a problem in the banking system, but you people are directing your anger and energy at the wrong people. Itís the fraking big bloated government and the bureaucracy and the FED that are making the environment these tools thrive in. Donít get mad at business for the sake of them conducting business...get mad at the sharks who have occupied the halls of congress...some of them for decades who have not only allowed it, but encouraged it. Ahhh...who am I kidding, 99% of OWS will vote for Schulmer, Frank, Obama...

As for me? Scroll up to see why you guys lost me.

I have two words, DOWNSIZE GOVERNMENT: Both federal and local. The Taxes for property, and payroll will be able to be cut drastically, putting more money in peoples pockets. Federal government should protect BASIC SERVICES, SS< MEDICARE< and national defense, thats IT. Otherwise it will just keep getting bigger and taking more and more of peoples money, until they are taking everything, and controlling everything from food @ Water, to housing, schooling medical. Think it is not possible, think again, this is exactly what OBUMMER meant by fundamental transformation of America. All the people he has in place believe the same thing, Communism, Socialism and Marxism is great and the way to go. Even though it has failed and dimminised people quality of life drasstically every single time it was tried.

Re: Why don't you do the math before you tell these kids to not borrow money-- or get a job!
I love this OP.

I am living proof that things can and WILL go wrong, and when you least expect it. If you are healthy, you are already ahead of 'the game'.

Husband works on cars, boats, and computers on his own. He has extremely low overhead, because he rents out a boat storage spot from the landlord right up the street to work on the boats and cars...when they come in. The customers get a great break from the fancier shops out there, and still complain. I don't blame them. Car parts are crappier, and way too expensive. His back is just awful, and he has no business doing such hard work, but he has no choice. Computer repair is easier, but the calls aren't coming in like they used to.So he goes on. and on.

He does the computers here at the house.

Computers need fixing so we always need a connection. That's where I'm lucky and always have the ability to come on here. Without that connection, he can't very well fix them. I help him on the computers when I can. One legged ladies aren't exactly in demand out there, and I am put to better use helping him anyway.

I just found out Friday that my youngest girl of 12 has scoliosis. So does her brother. He has a long rod in his back that hurts 24/7 and was told no hard labor, no jumping no hard play of any kind. He's 18 and a freshman in college. So now, there's two kids that can never do any hard, literally 'back breaking' work. They have no choice but to get that education. As the doc said Friday, 'kid, your trampoline days are over'. Made my heart sink. Here we go again, I thought.

Sometimes life is damned unfair. But, we are going to get through this one way, through Support for each other. My kids help me all the time. I help them. I am worried sick my daughter will need surgery as well. Lots of gasoline for those trips to the physical therapy folks for her so we can hopefully avoid the surgery. I don't know how we are going to do it, but somehow we manage. Somebody 'out there' or something perhaps? likes us. I hate religion, but I'd be a fool to say we aren't blessed. We eat and sleep with a roof.

I'm just saying, I don't expect to ever get ahead, but I'm crossing my fingers for my kids. I also have two grown kids that have it hard too. When I peer into the future, I see us all living in my cramped house together just to survive. Wouldn't doubt it if it happened. Hell I'd be closer to my grandkids anyway.

Re: Why don't you do the math before you tell these kids to not borrow money-- or get a job!
You can always get a loan :)))) Then you're a slave who thinks he's rich, cause he can afford a nice car and a nice house in a nice neighborhood.

You're absolutely right though. I think all those who say "go get a job" are either ignorant, or their mama and papa bought everything for them, or they have a good fat salary at one of the big companies of this rotten system.

I guess most of you saw the "Human farming" video on Youtube, but here it is again:

I completely agree with the initial thread. Articulated well and that was just one scenario. Just imagine if your family was already poor before all of this happened. Then what? Blame people for not working hard enough? come on...there's a big disproportionate amount of money that the middle class is not receiving and all the blame can't be on the majority of the country. That's basically saying 99% of the USA is stupid. Really? It seems like the only stupid thing was trusting the government would help the country out when the time came. And GLP seems to agree with insulting the 99%.
