Opportunity is out there for everyone to find. Really it is. It is all a mindset of the individual and nothing more. If you want things handed to you, you will never go forward in life. Sorry to just say it like that.

OMG. On what planet do you live?

Right here with the A Cowards.

Opportunity does not mean you or anyone else will make the new facebook. Or make millions doing nothing. it does take work......or getting the right people to do the work for you for nothing.
 Quoting: The Crazy One

According to texgirl it will.

Oh, well, you've just given everyone the KEY to success!

Hear that everyone? Now just go out and work OR get the "right people" to do it for you!

No more poverty in America!!!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3458912

Working and living within your means will get you somewhere other than the shithole every whinging little wanker on here says they are in.

Opportunity is getting off of your arse to create something someone else will go forth and pay for.
 Quoting: The Crazy One

Yes, it's so easy, isn't it??!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3458912

Actually it is. I have done it with several differing sites and sold those. I am working on others now and am partnered in 2 ventures.

So yes it is easy if you put forth the same effort you would have put into the complaining you are doing on here.

Trinity is doing it with all of us. Gives us a place to sit and play all day and Trin earns money off of adverts and other crap on here. it is that easy.
 Quoting: The Crazy One

Wow. Great example. (rolls eyes)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3458912

It works. Don't hate on someone because you refuse to put an effort into doing the exact same thing or something better.

Ohh wait a minute. I forgot that this is the pity me parade in here.

Honestly, the opportunities are there for everyone that has the gumption to go forward and create something someone else would want to pay for, use or even promote for you. If you have luxuries in life....aka....TVs, internet, computers, dvd/BR players, AC, a car then you have the means to pay for a start up business.
 Quoting: The Crazy One

Well my my . . . please do tell us then WHY is there any poverty in America, WHY are people doing without, WHY are people struggling to pay their bills, WHY are so many doing without ANY kind of security or luxury . . . oh yeah, yeah, they are ALL BUMS!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3458912

If you choose to call them that then so be it. I did not. Nice try at that failed argument.

Why is there poverty in america? Same reason there is poverty across the globe.

Why are people struggling to pay bills? Could it be due to the fact they may well be living beyond their means? I am sure that an xbox, BluRay, the newest $200 shoes, the $100 jeans, and countless luxury items are a requirement to live. Just as is the junk food from Macca, Burger King, Chicken Express, Popeyes chicken, Sodas, chippies, candies, and other non essential conveniences are needed.

Fashion, getting your food in 3 minutes or less and keeping up with the Jones' is the name of the game. rolleyes

Security and luxury is just that. Nothing more nothing less. They are something that you have to create yourself. they are not something that you are entitled to. They are not something that you are given when you are born. These are things that you get when you put forth the effort in life. many people have forgone luxuries and security to go forward in life so that they can have these later in life.

Novel concept.

None of these are a requirement to live. You are not required to have ac to live.
 Quoting: The Crazy One

Ever been to Texas?

Did you live ANYWHERE in America this past summer that had triple-digits for weeks and weeks????
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3458912

Yes, I live in Dallas when I am not in Lorne. I was in Dallas from May until 2 weeks ago with the triple digits. What is your point? That AC is a requirement to live life? I am sure that those who explored the southwestern states of America back before air conditioning sure did lived without AC....wait....they did not have it. Ohh my I am sure they bitched about it and whinged like a little prat every day of their lives saying how they should be given this by the new founded country when it was not even in existence.

So once again I stand by those words. AC is not a god given right nor is not a requirement to live.

Living without things is what your ancestors did. They did not have luxuries like we have today.
 Quoting: The Crazy One

FUCK the ancestors. I am so fed up with this reliance on the past . . . this is what people did a hundred years ago or fifty years ago or . . . blah blah.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3458912

Reality hurts for you I can see. The truth is the truth. Deny the facts and it clearly shows how pathetic your point is.

The point is they were able to do it. Human beings have done it for centuries prior to the all luxury inventions everyone now "relies" on and cries that they are entitled too.

I am sorry that some people decided to leave due to a few that have the pity me I dont have any opportunities mentality instead of the I want to better myself and will do whatever it takes mentality.
 Quoting: The Crazy One

When are you going to have your own show on tv . . . the new Dr. Phil you are! You have all the answers. Or I know, write a book . . . quick! Get the word out to all the millions without a lot of money, without jobs, or insurance or any degree of security . . . you know, the kids who can't afford college, the middle-agers who are being booted from their jobs because their companies are cutting costs and consider them a liability . . . all those millions of good people just don't realize that it's THEIR fault and that they can easily find a way to be prosperous and successful and if they aren't, it's THEIR fault.

Sigh.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3458912

Keep sighing. It is all you have left. I have no need to write a book nor get a tv or radio show. I am only speaking the truth.

I will say this. I know plenty that have it far worse than you expound on and they have yet to cry as much as you have in this post alone. They started two new businesses and run it out of their singlewide. They dont have AC, dont have a TV and live in the middle of BFE west of Weatherford TX. They did and do what it takes to put food on their kids plates and they have not taken a hand out from anyone, including me. I offered to put them up in our house in texas while we are in Australia. They refused. Be it pride or whatever.

So go attend your pity party and cry with others that think like you. You are the ones that refuse to understand that the luxuries you want are not given rights or required to live. They are earned by hard work, making enough to afford those luxuries and enjoying them.

So stop hating on those that understand how much opportunity there is in America. It is not our fault you refuse to make a sacrifice to be better off later.

That I can agree with. Too many people with the entitlement thoughts running around whinging about how bad they have it. There still is opportunity out there if you go and try.

Good for the people still busting their ass, god knows I am too.

 Quoting: BigNutChuck

I have followed what you have said on here. Some can be considered whinging in their eyes. Not everyone is going to agree with what you have to say.

There has been many wrongs and making the changes to get it right will take effort on the part of many, but the OWS people are not doing it right. IMO.

I am telling you something is very wrong with our great country, so wake the fuck up please.
 Quoting: BigNutChuck

I am awake. That is why I am doing what I have to to survive and make sure that I have something to fall back on. No one should be sitting around hoping for hand outs or the likes. I am not saying you are so dont take it that way.

It is just a fact that some people expect that they should not have to work more than 8 hours in a day to scratch a living. some can do it and get away with it. Good on them. Some can not and do not try to find a way to get out of these holes they are in. BUT it is not my job or the job of others to bail them out, when they have things they can live without to better their situation.

If someone steals your car or money. Your idea is you must TAKE IT AND NOT SAY NOTHING CAUSE YOU ARE A COWARD.
 Quoting: BigNutChuck

that is the mentality of some. That is some of what has brought down this nation. The weak kneed will always be that way until they finally are stomped on enough to stand up and not take it anymore...there are those of course that will not and continue to take it.

Again these are the people that will continue to bleed the current system for what it has and complain about it constantly.

I am going to tell everyone someone stole it and whoop the shit out of whoever it was. It is not whinning.
 Quoting: BigNutChuck

No it is not whinging. More people need to do that, but this does not mean that the system in place is flawed per say.

The current state of this country is farked. Plain and simple, but it was not corporation x or whomever that stole it. It is the mentality of those that were stolen from who allow it to happen.

The country will not grow as a whole with such division. It is TPTB that induce this strife amongst the populace and bring forth the class warfare. They want you to believe that it is the lower classes of the upper class group that is the problem when it is not. It is they who are the controllers that cause this issue and nothing more.

Take the focus off of them whilst they rob from everyone. The perfect example is JPM and their play to get WAMU. They had a chance to buy WAMU for $8/share (fair price at the time) but they turned it down. They got insider info from plants they had within WAMU to see where they stood. They had friends in the guberment that were buddies of Dimon. They had the Fed cause a run on the bank to drive it close to insolvency and then had the FDIC do an unprecedented move of a Thursday bank closure for a 1 bidder auction of the estate for 2cents on the dollar. All the while JPM took the handout from the guberment. your tax dollars paid for JPMs take over of WAMU and it did not theoretically cost them anything.

That is what everyone should be up in arms about. The blatant stealing, yet everyone is more worried about how many shoes they have, how many pounds the winner of the Biggest Loser lost, how their footy team is doing...etc...etc.

The OWS pity party is not shedding any light on this. They are doing thing but unorganized protesting of everything. If that is standing up then please....let me be one of the many to say they are retards.

It is what is right and what is wrong and if you can't see that then you are truly lost.
 Quoting: BigNutChuck

Again what is right and what is wrong?

Getting AC, having a car valued better than 18k, making sure you can buy a big mac fulled with hormones and chemicals for a few bucks????

If our fathers of this country had your ideas we would all be british.

 Quoting: BigNutChuck

Some of us have. Many of us have gotten away from the debt controllers by working hard and making sacrifices that meant living out of a car in the middle of a Texas summer for 8 months. Many of us went without to have the things we have now just so we could be detached from the system as much as possible. Yes, I have a CC for emergencies, yes I have bank accounts, yes I do pay property taxes, but that is part of doing business and living in this world run by TPTB.

Some of us could bitch about having to pay property taxes to fund schools. Especially those that do-not have children or home school their children. It happens, does it mean that we are not doing what it takes to better ourselves and securing our childrens futures? No. We focus on the tasks at hand to better our lives and our families lives making sure we make more than enough to cover these costs and put enough to the side in forms of preps, barterable goods and metals.

I find it odd that someone from a 3rd world country will scrip and save, eating what they can find to save money to go to America legally to live and yet does not bitch, moan or complain about how degrading their living conditions were and in some cases are when they get here. The continue to do what it takes to better their lives and their families lives, yet there are Americans that will complain if their electricity goes out for more than 5 minutes simply because it interrupted Judge Judy.

Odd how when those that have luxuries are the first to complain about how they have to give them up to live and those that have not are the first to go take 3 jobs or more to make sure they can get them. (Not saying you are one of those, just making the statement)

makes you look at things a little differently when you see this happening.

BTW. Most these "injustices" are happening globally not just in America.

Turn the air conditioning to 78 and the heat to 70. Shut the doors and keep the heat/cooling where the thermostat is. Guess what. It it survivable.

And if $600 is low for your area, then share rent and utilities with a friend.

Most banks will offer a loan based on a job for that amount. Still can't get a used car? Ride the bus. Bum a ride. Ride a bike. Walk. Amazing what necessity can do for desire and ingenuity.

There was $10k/annually for disposable/savings, clothes, hookers... whatever.

I survived quite well on $32k/year and had other items not on this list.
Worked my ass off and am now making a very nice salary.

First of all, don't direct any "advice" my way . . . I'm a competent adult, and have likely been dealing with the grown-up world a lot longer than you have.

Now . . . if YOU want to willingly and happily "share" living quarters with people in these times, have at it . . . but you are taking a huge chance, for countless reasons.

NO ONE rides buses in many parts of the country.

BUM A RIDE???? Oh, that's rich . . . you're one of those who think everyone should do for themselves, but it's ok to "BUM" when it's convenient?

NO ONE rides a bike or walks to work or stores in TEXAS and other parts of the country that are wide-open and spaced out - maybe that works in a crowded little piece of crap like DC or somewhere, but not everywhere.

You are wrong in your assessment of those numbers - unless you're happy to live a less than comfortable and enriched daily existence - which is just what people making minimum wage up to $15 an hour are doing.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3458912

I'm a Texan and this AC is absolutely right about buses and bikes in the wide open spaces like Texas.

Also, I agree that those wages in no way allow a person to live comfortably and independently and have any degree of luxury or entertainment, hobbies, etc.

If you had skills, you could fix the problems with the house, I personally know several men who could do it iin short order...the entire state of VA has lower unemployment than the rest of the country, someone as smart as you should know that! The crime rate in Roanoke is pretty low compared to other places too....nope, what just happened is that you didn't like being shown that you have no legitimate argument so you resort to these tactics!

Just because this is a powerful nation doesn't mean you are entitled to a damn thing....and many, many people before you was damn thankful to have just a simple roof. You need to learn what it is to actually want for the basics.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1734272

Maybe you should learn proper grammar before criticizing others - but it's up to you, you are not entitled to an education!

You want to live in a place like VA, go ahead.

No way is buying a house like that one a solution for anyone having money problems. Did you stop to think for one second about all the costs involved in either repairing or maintaining a place like that? There is no telling how many structural and other problems there are in an older house like that and the idea that a $25 K house is going to be nothing more than a "simple roof" is ridiculous.

500 for a one bedroom apartment with heat hot water and electric included. 25 for a parking space

No car payment. My car was 1000 and I payed it off with my tax return. It runs fine

between 10 and 20 dollars a week for food

thats 160-170 dollars a week. I get 280 a week. The rest goes to liability insurance for my car, phone bill, gas, cigarettes and the occasional alchoholic beverage

Health insurance is covered by my job and if I want extra money I have ample oppurtunity to work overtime. I understand not everyone has these benefits, but they aren't necessary to living so it doesn't matter

are you familiar with the concept of frugality?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1733180

that just goes to show you that the real scam is that everyone bought into the education scam. Colleges are financial institutions. 90% of the jobs that people go to college for could easily be done by someone who doesn't have an "education". If people could pick a book up on their own, college would be unnecessary.

Re: Why don't you do the math before you tell these kids to not borrow money-- or get a job!
I get some money from loans, some from my own pocket and some from state grants and some from merit based scholarships based on good grades.

I'm very comfortable with my debt, I will be able to pay it off even if my degree does NOTHING to improve my wages from before. Sometimes I have worked part time and only taken one or two classes, so I haven't been able to finish college in four years, but I have never been in a big rush, and I'm NOT in debt up to my eyeballs. In fact I have already started paying some off, and the more regularly I do this the better my credit score will eventually be.

I don't have a credit card and wouldn't want one, and I wouldn't take out a loan for a car when there are so many decent ones around for cheap.

Making it on 40,000. That was the first post and I did a break down of bills and showed how hard it was.

The reason I did this was to show people that times are tough.

You come on here a say you are making it with ONLY 10,000 OR 14,000 A YEAR.

BUT YOUR ARE GETTING LOANS.

If you are getting loans, then you are NOT MAKING IT STUPID. YOU ARE HAVING TO BORROW MONEY.

This would also increase what you have a month to spend and your tuition WOULD BE CONSIDERED A BILL.

Making a living on 10,000 with no debt. Not hard at all. Never had a loan in my life. I already broke it down for you twice but you choose to ignore it or make wrong assumptions about what that sort of life consists of. If you're having a difficult time living on 40,000 you're an idiot. Accept it

You gave a breakdown where you are paying off a house loan, an 18,000 dollar car payment and a 400 dollar a month grocery bill. all of which is completely unrealistic. You say 150 dollars is low for electric. I know people who can get it down to 30. You didn't have to go to college. You didn't have to go to college right after highschool.

Congrats on making it there buddy.

You are absolutly right and a big my bad. I never realized til you posted it how rich many people are.

I guess I just thought the country was in trouble. Hell maybe ALL those people out of a job and in debt are really just lazy bums.

Boy I wish I could just be like you with the ambition to actually think 10,000 is success.

Glad you are saving so much to retire.
Glad you will never have property, aka house or land.
Glad you car is always used and can't be trusted to go very far.

REALLY glad you have no fucking health insurance and I get to pay MORE IN taxes to cover you ER visits.

Glad you will never be educated.

Here is to your success.

I'd rather have 10,000, no debt, and be happy with myself than to have 40,000, not be able to make my bills, a smart answer for anyone who offered options, reasons why absolutely nothing will work, while I attempt to prove everyone wrong and demean those who are able to be content with less than me.

There has been many wrongs and making the changes to get it right will take effort on the part of many, but the OWS people are not doing it right. IMO.

Let's examine the idea of EVERY person in America being GIVEN a home, food, and clothing.

Would that not better support the foundation of people, thus giving them the impetus to work harder and do better - BECAUSE they would be relieved of the burden and fears associated with having to get the basics?

If people have to worry about the basics, it distracts them from doing other things they need to do, they become less productive in everything.

So think about this: Do the research and look at how much money - the OBSCENE amount of money we GIVE to other countries!

Yes . . . WE - AMERICANS - GIVE MONEY TO THOSE COUNTRIES.

Then figure how far those monies would stretch across this country annually and what it would do for American CITIZENS!

All you who rant and rave about how wrong it is to guaranteee housing and educations and health care to all citizens in America probably NEVER balk about those obscene amounts this nation doles out to other countries, including many countries who will NEVER do better on their own, NEVER solve their own problems, but rely on handouts from . . . Handouts for Americans getting a education, or losing their jobs, etc, Yep that can't happen cause they must earn it.

This post above reminds me of another reason there is so much trouble with people being out of work: people having to work longer hours or have multiple jobs. Naturally, the more hours someone works is eliminating the need for another employee, causing higher unemployment.

Any thoughts on this matter?

 Quoting: BigNutChuck

I can also state that it was ignorance that took down atlantis. the problem with that is that we do not have proof of such a civilization other than the hearsay of others. Until we have tangible proof using them as an example and someones theory of them is fruitless in such an argument.

You say these protesters are doing nothing. No you are wrong. They are exercising their rights, which we barely still have.
 Quoting: BigNutChuck

Exercising their right to protest. Great. An un-organized protest filled with people that want to have sex with animals as their main theme, and others protesting how it is unfair to have to get a job, and others protesting how they have to pay their college bills now, and yet others protesting how the fed is so wrong. There is no organization to any of this. Yet, I will give you that they are exercising their rights to protest, be it in a confused way.

People pulled the Boston TEA Party over tax on tea by a corporation!!! East India Trade Company
 Quoting: BigNutChuck

yes, great you know your history.

People I'm sure in that day thought that was pretty stupid to be UPSET over tea.
 Quoting: BigNutChuck

I am sure it was. Point being...wait...a useless old age crack coming up.

I bet you heard a lot of "back in my day, we didn't have tea. Hell, we had to walk sixty miles for water. Damn spoiled you kids"

This action sparked OUR GREAT COUNTRY!!!!
 Quoting: BigNutChuck

Yep, the best you got is this. typical to resort to name calling and the likes when all you got is whinging like you are doing.

So you have now proven to us that you think the ows people are great. So this means you are in line with EVERYTHING they are supporting.

that includes the sub culture groups of ...

1. Sex with animals
2. pedophilia is just Homosexual tendencies
3. Aliens control the media

Shall I go on? No need. If the OWS was such a great thing then by all means they would have a better plan of attack on this not just gangs of people complaining about everything and anything.

But I digress.

Wow, because he agrees OWS has is exercising their right to protest, he supports them and thinks they are great? I can't even follow that logic...it's just so stupid... it's just... just...so....

Re: Why don't you do the math before you tell these kids to not borrow money-- or get a job!

You must live in a ghetto.

10 - 20 dollars a week for food??!! Are you joking????

I would NEVER take seriously the "advice" or "wisdom" from someone so utterly STUPID enough to buy goddamn cigarettes. Talk about a waste of money!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3595192

no ghetto

10 - 20 a week on food. Yes. Tuna fish. a loaf of bread. a carton of eggs. a few cans of soup and some vegetables. maybe some sandwich meat.

You can get two meals out of a can of tuna fish or a can of campbells soup and make sandwiches with one slice of bread.

I lived like this with my work hours cut back to part time, supporting a friend who was homeless without a job or money and staying at my place. Sometimes we'd go for days at a time with nothing to eat but some spinach and carrots. This was one of the best times of my life as I wasn't working that much and had plenty of time to walk around and enjoy the life I made for myself

starving makes you feel alive. You're miserable cause your so detached from the things that sustain life. Hard to appreciate water when Dr. Pepper has 40 flavors

y'all are the slaves. Trying to put the responsibility for your very survival into someone elses hands. Beggars cant be choosers. so I hope you dont end up complaining when the government provides you with a free house wherever they decide you should be living. With whoever they think you should be living with. When they provide you with a job doing whatever they tell you to do for a price they set. When they provide you with a free education and teach you whatever they want you to know (they already do that). When they put you on (free!) drugs for whatever they decide is wrong with you

Right now, I have the freedom to be poor. Right now I have the freedom to be homeless (sorta). I could work 10 hours a week and live in a van if I wanted to. The future you want doesn't provide for that. The future you want is a boot stamping on a human face forever and I dont want any part of that. Fuck your protests

what happens with these movements? Womens liberation put the other half of the population to work and put their children in daycares and schools. What part of that is liberation?

Actually, if you read what he is so inclined to accuse others and myself of then I am just playing the same game he wants to play in here. Sweeping accusations based on ignorance deserves the same disrespect that is given.
