Sunshine Coast Queensland Locals - Is it my eyes or are the stars really dim??
Ok, it might be my eyes.. but if there is anyone online atm on the east coast of queensland.. can you go look outside and tell me if the stars seem like 80% dimmer than normal.. i could barely see them and there is no cloud cover above my house.. a little freaked out to be honest..

Maybe God has decided to switch to energy savers.

You are quite correct OP. The days seem clear enough but the nights seem to get very hazy and while you can see all the stars, they are very dim. We do have high humidity at present which means a denser atmosphere. I am near Gatton.

I would of thought at Gatton it would of been even clearer skies .. thats strange that its also happening out there.. I wonder what it is..

Honestly though, it doenst seem like haze here.. I dont know how to even explain it really.. its like .. im looking through a tinted window if that makes any sense..

Here where I am, when there is cloud cover, even if its thin, the light from Nambour and Maroochydore bounce off the clouds so you can see where they are.. there were a few hazy clouds about tonight, but it was the inbetween gaps that i was looking through and seeing pitch black and no stars..then when i strained to look i started to see them.. so faint.. i actually got a headache trying to strain my eyes .. this has never happened to me before.. thats why i thought it was weird..

Thanks for you input..

the friday before last was in the cbd in melbourne. you could only see one star that was really bright in the sky. there were one or two others that were really dim and that was it. the bright star was arcturus. was pretty mad

I'm a bit further away, in Nambour. Although it's been so damn overcast the past week I haven't been able to see anything. I did note the sun setting in the further towards the south instead of it's usual place in the west tonight though, and it set at 6:30 pm instead of around 5:30 like normal.

I'm not exactly a local to this area though, I'm originally from Darwin and we didn't have this daylight savings crap, if it's this time of year. I don't know what's going on to be honest.

It is odd. I often sit out and watch the satellites etc but that hasn't happened for a week or two now. Even Jupiter is hard to see tonight and it is usually brilliant.
Cheers mate

I noticed that too Rei, though the sun will be setting later and later now we are getting toward summer.. I usually sit on my top step and do my sungazing around 5.15 and today i couldnt see it from the top step, i had to move about half way down the stairs to see it around the corner of the house.. weird..

Im over in burnside and look out over nambour and it was hazy over the town but to the south from my back porch skies were clear over the range, but still the stars were so hard to see.. got me a bit spooked to be honest..

Hey if you still wanna catch up for coffee shoot me an email at [email protected] .. dont have my paid account anymore..

Just to clarify that we havent had daylight saving in Qld for bloody yonks and 6.30ish sunset is perfectly normal for this time of year.

having said that, the clouds here [bris] at sunset were magnificent - hot pink line clouds radiating from a single spot to the north -from 3ish the sky looked like someone practicing their airbrushing :-)
